Fred Encounters of the third kind
 

So there's some 2-day charity ride going on here in Delaware, where I've come for my triathlon... The Fred encounter I experienced at the front desk of the hotel is just too good to pass up.

So, as you likely know, Cervelo's decals don't exactly leave much doubt as to the Cervelo-ness of the bike. When I rolled my bike into the lobby and checked in, though, the charity rider behind me in line, after gawking at my bike for a little while, turns to me and says "Who makes that bike? Did you get it shipped in from Europe or something? You didn't buy that in the States, did you?"

And nice guy you are, you replied...

this is going to be fun.

"It's a Cervelo. They're a Canadian company, and their frames are made in Asia. You can get them all over the US."

Then I laughed on the inside. :)

This is why companies put so many logo's on their bikes. People still didn't know what you were riding. I guess Cervelo needs more logo's.

Afterwards, did you drop him like he was standing still on your way to the elevator?

I guess that really bruised your ego that they didn't know anything about your plastic bike. Like rolling it through the lobby they were supposed to bow and cry out "I'm Not Worthy". Because they didn't know anything about your plastic toy and were low lifers doing a chaity ride while you were a triathlete.

So, you just had to post this "Fred Encounter". It is funny, but not for reasons you think.

Having been seriously asked what state the city of Delaware is in after telling people (who live in the US) where I'm from, perhaps he was just messing with you? As with many questions in this forum, sometimes it's hard to tell a joke from a stupid question.

Be sure to buy a "Delawhere?" shirt before you leave.
