WAIT!!!--Costco has a decent bike?!?!?
Now correct me if I'm way off mark here, but it seems that this...
https://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...S&Sp=C&topnav=
...is a decent, entry level bike. Sora groupset, and fairly decent components throughout. Am I going crazy here? Or does Costco have a fairly decent bike at a good price?

that company makes petty much the same bike for target. i know one of theres weights 27lbs. since this one has carbon seat stays maybe its a bit lighter, but i doubt its under 25lbs. costco had a decent 105 bike for ~1k.
imo it seems like carbon seat stays, seat post, handlebars are all just marketing gimicks, at the very least i can't tell the difference. but carbon forks work really well.

That bike's made by Kent, I believe...
It's OK for a decent dept. store bike, but it's nothing more.
There's quite a few reviews of it over on Amazon, too.

Have you checked Wal-Mart lately? They've got a $1.4k "Corsa" Full Carbon Ultegra Equipped bike.
If we're talking surprised decent bikes, I mean.
There's also a few others, but, nothing I'd buy.
I'm a steel guy (Yeah I know, I should just go back to C&V where I belong)... so, it doesn't interest me too much.

My favorite selling point. "The Denali Limited starts out with a hand crafted aluminum frame for unequalled lateral stiffness then add carbon seat stays that ensure vertical compliance."

Well to start with its a Shimano 2200 groupset. Not really Sora which is 3300. Really cheap bikes always come with Shimano 2200 groupsets. I can't see it as anything more than a slight upgrade on the usual cheap fair and even then I would like to see a higher quality aluminum frame rather than some carbon add ons which I would be dubious about.

Here's a suspicious line: "Assembled by the hands of skilled Italian mechanics to be tuned up and ready to ride right out of the box."
When did Italian mechanics start exporting their hands to the Far East?
Also, it would take a pretty small rider to ride it right out of the box.

Well, let's play the devil's advocate here.
You buy it for 400$ and take it to your LBS and have them thoroughly tune it for 50-75$ (any LBS who won't take that no overhead job needs to go out of business posthaste) and you have a serviceable roadbike for a bit under $500.
Now let's make it clear that spending "a bit more" and buying a 1000$ entry level Trek, etc makes absolutely no sense to the person shopping for bikes at Costco. I'm sure the low level Shimano stuff works (don't know for sure as I run Campy and therefore am obviously willing to spend real coin on my bikes ) and the bike is now properly set up.
Finding a clean used bike for 200$ is nice but it's not like they're sitting at every third garage sale this coming Saturday. In my experience the "great deals" on used bikes are never around when you're actually looking for one.
So when we're done someone has a serviceable bike. Maybe they get into it and end up on a Cervelo in a few years, maybe not, but they haven't spent a whole lot of money to find out.
So yeah, it ain't bad if you know the context of "ain't bad."
Finally, Lance would kick all of our butts on that bike.
(You had to know that was coming )
