Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Would rather get picked up than fix the flat? If you knew how to actually fix the flat, it wouldn't have to ruin your day, you wouldn't have to sit in a car grumbling about it, and you wouldn't have to sit on the road trying to fix it. And the best part is you try to defend it by saying "I ride my way and you ride your way".

Fixing a flat should be something everyone who owns a bike knows how to do, especially if you plan on riding distance as it's pretty inconsiderate to expect someone to have to drive to get you because you don't know how to fix a flat. You must have tolerant family and friends because helping those who really need it is one thing, enabling inconsiderate people who choose to inconvenience others is another. Don't be surprised if you end up having to do the walk of shame more often once people get on to you.

I also think the wheels on the 2008 are better than the wheels on the 2009. But the Alliance frame is quite nice for a <$2000 bike, and I've definitely loved riding it.

Looking at the giant 2009 catalog they should have the same components. Except the wheels and pedals. The 2008 has Xero XSR-3 and Shimano M-520. The 2009 has Mavic CXP22 rims and CB smarty padels. However at my LBS the 2009 is $300 more expensive.

Here's my baby. I'll see if I can swing by the LBS again sometime soon (maybe if I go without my wallet I can walk out of there for under $100?), but I'm pretty sure the Defy I saw had FSA cranks/chainring on it, not Shimano.

If I actually new how to fix a flat.....

Do you HONESTLY think that you or anyone on these forums is going to bring me down to your level by name calling? Do I even know you? Better yet, do you even know me? No, you have no idea who I am, so before you try and get all high and mighty remember that people do things different for a reason. I for one don't like changing spares on the road. Does that mean I can't do it? Ofcourse not, I do them just as much as the next person. And what's the big deal about me riding my way? Is there some unwritten law that says I can't be who I am? Didn't think so either. Fix a flat...

Wow a grammar error....now we're getting somewhere!

Let's see, I have seen the words idiot, lame, and noob pop up in relation to what I post on here. I'm not an idiot by any means, not one person on this forum has ever ridden with me so nobody on here even knows wether I'm a noob or not, and lame...that one speaks for itself. Like I said before, I'll do things and ride my way...if you don't like it, tough cookies. You're not me and neither is anybody else on this forum.

I didn't call you an idiot or lame. I said you were the embodiment of all that was lame about noobs. If you want to sit on the side of the road and wait to be rescued because you can't be bothered to change a flat, that is your prerogative. But don't expect that we won't find it funny. Honestly, why let a flat ruin your day?

I could pretty much care less who finds it funny...if I were that worried about it I wouldn't be posting publicly about it. Flats ruin my day because (for like the 3rd time in 10 minutes) that's who I am. I don't like flats just as much as the next person. We can sit here crapping up this poor guy's thread about useless stuff all day long or we can quit worrying about why I do what I do, your decision.

Still loving the bike OP

You are worrying it a lot more than I am. If you didn't care what people thought it wouldn't bother you so much what I say.

Doesn't bother me one bit bud, but I'm not gonna sit here and watch people who don't even have a clue who I am try and bring me down for doing something different from what every other person does and not defend myself.

You don't need me to bring you down, it just takes a flat

Sure wish I knew what the heck you're talkin about...just because I respond doesn't mean you're "pushing my buttons"

I'll repost the picture if I have to be even that's getting old. Guess you're just not used to having someone not run and hide when you attempt the high school child's play talk huh?

My point is that it clearly bothers you that we (myself and others) find it funny that you are so troubled by the horror of having to change a flat on the side of the road. I admit that it is a little trite that I am needling you about it, but I can't ride right now so I have to entertain myself somehow.

People call me out on crap all the time, I'm used to it. This wouldn't be fun if you weren't so defensive about it.

Edit: Apologies to the OP. It is a nice bike. I think it looks nice and I actually like the painted seatpost

I find it quite ironic that I'm here for the same reason I'm not even close to being on the defensive side

Honestly though, I would like to know why you have such an issue with changing a flat. If you can give a rational reason I'll leave you alone.
