Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

peeing while riding

I think this question might of been answer a while back but how on earth do you pee while riding? I want to learn so I can do it in a race. B/c I drink alot of water before a race and I always have to go while racing. Any advise, OI have to ride 3 hours tomorrow. What can I do to learn to pee off the bike. Thanks for the advise. Also I have tryed a few times but can't seem to do it.

You'll only need to pee while riding if you're doing races of 100+ miles. Otherwise you should easily be able to hold it for a few hours. Typically most of the water you drink will work it's way out of you in the form of sweat.

No personal experience, but it appears that the pros either stop and dismount to pee or have a buddy push them along with a hand to the back while they remove lil willie and wizz off to the side.

Not only that...

I often have complete bowel movements when I ride. It's the easiest way to trim some weight on the ole' iron steed.

If you want to learn you better start now! Get on that trainer of yours and start pedaling. Preferably do the whole procedure in a tub or be prepared to pay the bill from carpet cleaners………….

Don't worry about it because if you have to ask, your races are not long enough to matter.
BTW...why do you HAVE to ride three hours?

eww ewww ewwww. i don't care if guys actually do this or not but if your going to.... please either make sure i 1)am not your riding partner or that 2) i'm not riding behind you or 3) i'm not next to you. eww ewww ewwww. yuckers! come on how long does it take to stop off at a tree or a bush. and what about those riders behind you? they are going to be very ticket off if you miss the side of the road. you better peddle that thing real fast otherwise i see you getting a pounding at the finish line... and i don't mean beatin' in the way of you came in second. i mean beatin' in many punches to the head.

i'm sorry that's just grusome on so many levels.

I ride by myself so I really dont have to worry about peeing on people. In my city, there is a cycling population of like 5 maybe if I am lucky.

Soooo..... instead of peeing on someone else (thank you of being mindfull of others... i suppose), you'll just take the indecent exposure charge... hmmm, makes one wonder if you'll have many people to ride w/ in the future.

cheers

I think it's a valid question. Sorry it grossed y'all out.

He's a racer and asked how to handle this situation in a race.

It was a valid question. Though it's actually a question that's really only valid for elite racers.

What may have been weird was thinking that it would be "kinda cool" to do it. Pros do it simply because they have little choice in the matter. Usually you'll see a mass pit stop shortly after the start of the race.

Well, if you are that desperate to really do it, you could always use a cathater and zip tie it to the seat stays.

I wish I was a guy when it comes to this.Finding a good place to squat is hard when your a girl I never forget the time I tried to hold onto to this tree in the woods that was rotted and the bark let go and I almost landed in a puddle.

I learned the hard way many years ago to make sure you piss DOWNWIND.

It was late Saturday night and we were coming come half bagged from a great outdoor concert and were walking across a bridge (the bridge in Montreal that connects the island they race F1 on to the mainland).

Anyways there were no people around so we decided to piss off the bridge into the river below. Only once we started we realized that the wind was blowing it right back into us!!!!!!!!

Sorta took a soaking and now I make sure to be downwind.
