Indeed.
You could have followed up with:
"Say friend, you seem angry. Would you like to have a conversation about your personal relationship with Jesus Christ?"
It never fails.

Would you do the same if you were in your car and the guy behind you wanted to turn right on red? How about if you were on a motorcycle? Or is it only bicycles that are expected to get out of cars' ways? I always ask, "what would a car do?" and if the answer is that I sit there blocking the guy behind me, too bad for him.

In Michigan, you can make a left on red onto a one way street from a 2-way street. In California, its like Mass., left turn on red from a one way to a one way.

Funny, on the C/A forum someone was wondering why some folks 'hate' motorcyclists...
I decided to do a nooner and reply and it kind fits here.... or not.
So, as for motorists, pick a reason... any reason as there are a lot.
- they've been inconvenience by a pack of riders on a regular basis (roads are for cars, not bikes... cyclists not helping their own cause here)
- they're intimidated as motorists by having to deal with a cyclist on the road (reminds them of their own lack of skills)
- they only wish they had that kind of free time to do something as frivolous as ride a bike (envy)
- you're in their way (intolerant, bikes don't belong on the road)
- they never had a bike as a kid or were confined to ride it in playgrounds and BMX tracks (bikes as toys & perhaps envy)
- they don't like being reminded that they made bad choices and are impossibly out of shape (envy)
- they're simply idiots who hate everyone who isn't just like them (Intolerant/hateful)
- they're ride bikes and honestly believe bicycles don't belong on the road because riding on the road simply scares the bejeezus out of them and, instead, love bike routes, MUPs, and the like. (bikes don't belong on the road)
- and on, and on, and on....

When I'm riding my motorcycle -- an 1100cc stock sportbike that I use as my daily commuter and that I ride in full gear -- I simply shake my head when one of my 'bretheren' does something I find disagreeable, e.g., a wheelie on the street, speeding, going WOT, or parking on the sidewalk or a hashed area. Put me on my bicycle around one of these jokers who has decided to have some perverse type of 'fun' at my expense and it's a short trip to wishing some type of wrath upon him.
Now, to be fair, there are a lot cyclists who ride in ways that I find inappropriate too... but I ain't going there.

So your bike lane sticks you in a location where you are to the right of right-turning traffic at stoplights? Sounds like a risky place to be in!
A&S would be a great forum for discussing this kind of stuff.

I feel the key to safety and smooth moving road transportation (regardless of vehicle) is to stay out of each other's way. This requires us to anticipate what others are wanting to do, and do our best to accommodate that.

It was just a four-way intersection: no right turn lane, just a bike lane on the shoulder. There is a small shopping mall to the right; turning right just takes you into the mall.

I don't know about where you guys live, but out here in California it would be pretty rare for an intersection to be deemed busy enough to need a signal light and yet still only have one-lane. They almost always have at least one straight lane and then enough width for another vehicle to be making a right hand turn.
