Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

ORBEA ... orca...

Checking to see what the market is like on the Orca... I called one LBS and they refused to give me a direct answer.

Wondering if you guys know how much you'd be able to save on a past model ORBEA? Looks like the 09 orca ultegra SL comes in at under 5,000, what would somebody save a year from now? Thanks

I'm clueless, but if it helps (or even if it doesn't) I bought my '08 Onix for about $500 off when the LBS started getting the '09 models. That worked out to about 20% off.

In generally, the absolute most you'll ever see past models discounted is 33%. usually less than that. on occassion, you'll it more than that...but it's not common...usually floor models or something way after the new model year releases.

Just bought a new 08 Orca with SRAM Force and Reynolds Assault wheels, which would fit your budget.

PM Me if you want to know the price and shop. They might have a few more at this incredible price.

This is really easy to do... if you're ready to do some building on your own.

I bought an '07 demo model Orca frameset earlier this year for $1200. Paired it with a never used '04 Record group I bought in '05 for $600. Put some $400 Spinergy Xlite Aeros on it and some $65 ultegra pedals, $75 FSA bars, $70 Thomson stem and seatpost, $30 saddle, $80 tires, and $50 in miscellany.

Total cost in dollars - $2575.00

Amount of time it took to find and "make the deals" - 6 months.

Final product:

Record group for 600? That's nuts. Where do you find these deals?

Follow the Ebay listings and contact the sellers of the bikes that don't sell because the reserve or the BIN is too high. You'd be surprised what some people will do.

In this instance, the group I got was a take off...the guy had been gifted a bike and had just switched out the Record group and put DA on it. He was selling his older bike when I emailed him. Came up that he had this group laying around and wasn't sure what he wanted to do with it...so he sold it to me. Purely luck but that's what it takes...lots of casts to catch a single fish.

You ought to be able to find a seriously good 08 model with Ultegra SL for way under $4000 right now. I can't speak specifically to the Orbea Orca but there are some full Dura-Ace bikes in my area for $3500 for example. The Orca's are sweet though...

I think it is too expensive, you can get a new one at this price (but 08 frame).

Garage sale....

I just bought an Orca today for $300. However, the condition leaves something to be desired. Apparently former owner got t-boned, very sad. Bought it for components: nearly brand new DA 7800, FSA carbon bars, Selle Stratos seat, etc. Think I got a pretty decent deal! Can anyone identify what model Orca this is? I can't seem to find anywhere on the frame where it says.

It's a 2009, and I'm pretty sure different Orca's are just named after their component groups. ie Orca Red, Orca Ultegra, etc.

You have a 2009 Orca Dura-Ace

Thanks for the info. Their website showed different models now for the Orca "line" for the current lineup.
