Glad to hear that you're okay ravenmore. You would be missed around here.
I had one of those "oh ****" moments last year where my reflexes / instinct kept me from getting hit head on by a pick up truck. I consider it one of the "defining moments" of my life, but not just because it could have ended it. It really made me appreciate a lot of different things, and not take them for granted: my family, my friends, my health, being able to ride, living in a great part of the country, places around the world I have visited... Ironically, that morning I had been listening to a CD that suggested writing your own obituary as a way of visualizing how you want your life to be. I just wasn't prepared to have an event that reinforced the idea so strongly! Be careful out there, everyone. |
Man, I'm glad you're OK. This is one time when I can honestly say that I know just about exactly how you feel. Last spring, I had a very similar situation- I was riding on a multiuse path alongside a road, minding my own business, when a speeding car lost control and jumped the curb at, I'd estimate, somewhere around 60mph. I too heard the crunch of metal (he broke his axle clear in half on the curb), and then I felt the whoosh of air as the car, at eye level, missed me by mere inches. Somehow, my autopilot kicked in and I purposely went down. Good thing I did, because if I had kept going, I would have been pinned/crushed into a stone wall that the car careened into, just inches in front of me. The car then caromed off the wall, back onto the road and took down a 7" diameter tree and a light standard. I got up right away and ran over to the guy- he was shocky (maybe drunk). I called 911, and hung out at the scene until it cleared, then rode home. And then proceeded to go through about two weeks of PTSD (insomnia, endless instant replays, occasional panic, all the classic signs). I'm OK now, but it definitely took a while to get over. I'm sure you'll be OK too, Ravenmore, but be prepared for this kind of thing- it's sort of creeps up on you like sunburn. It helps to talk it out- a lot. Chat it up with your friends and co-workers- if you need another ear, just PM me.
All the best, and glad you're OK. |

Like some others have posted, the "not your day" thing is all backward. You had something/somebody looking out for you today. Glad you're ok.
Glad your alright man. |
Geez Rave, you gotta cut down on the carnage you leave in your wake:roflmao2:
Seriously, glad you escaped a bad bad deal. It can't be said enough, always be alert and aware of your surroundings. I learned long ago to listen to the little voice of caution. If something seems odd or "off" don't go there. |
Sounds to me like it was a very good day! Glad to hear you listened to those gut feelings.
What time was this? I came back through there headed south about 16:50 on my way home, but I guess the stadium traffic doesn't usually start until 17:30 or so. A little earlier over on Great Oak I cruised past a bunch of cops with tasers and guns out, one holding a taser pointed somewhat in my direction just nodded as I rode past... |
