Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many water bottles do you carry on the bike?

Just picked up two bottles and cages from the local box store. How many do you carry on a typical ride?

2...easier to fill up than have another in your jersey pocket.

Wow, I wish I could find 18-30 hours/week to ride. D8

I use two. If I'm going on a longer ride I'll just bring a water bottle in my jersey and use it up first.

You could ... if you really wanted to. It's all about priorities. I managed it while working two jobs over the summer.

I like being retired. I found a guy that rides his birthday miles 6 days a week. He is 65 y/o.
Sometimes we have 7 to 9 riders. We meet at his house. Then drink coffee , beer, soft drinks after each ride.

Agreed.

If you're working while you do it, you won't have a life. At all.

I carry two bottles. I have rarely seen the need for more than two. Since we're supposed to drink one 750 ml bottle every 1 to 1.5 hours, my 750 ml bottle and my 1 litre bottle will last me at least 3 hours. Well ... I'm usually ready for a break after 3 hours of riding, and will fill up again at a convenience store, or wherever, at that point.

I have used a camelbak in addition to my bottles on a few rides, but I'm not fond of wearing the camelbak - it hurts my shoulders. Otherwise if I figure it's going to be more than 3 hours between supplies, I'll buy a bottle of pop at the place I'm filling up and put it into my trunk bag for later.

Two on my frame. A third in my jersey if I am out somewhere where there is no place to fill up. One has accelerade in it. I have been seen wearing a camelbak, but I don't like it.

15 credit hours, 10 work hours, 10 volunteer, 30-45ish study hours, 28-56 sleep hours/week. That really only leaves me about 55.5(average) hours/week of "free" time. I mean, I guess I could fit 30 hours/week into my schedule fairly easily, but I think I would suffer from pretty severe exhaustion.
Possible? Yes. A good idea? Difficult to say.

No. To be accepted into the program, I need a 3.7 or above GPA. Right now I'm teetering around a 3.8.

Right now I'm attending University 15 hours a week, working 16 hours a week, driving to school and work 11 hours a week, walking 4 hours a week, sleeping 48 hours a week at most, and studying/doing homework 20-40 hours a week ... and managing to ride on average at least 12 hours a week just now (the last couple weeks), but I have logged more on weeks throughout September. It's doable.

I usually carry three. Most of my rides are on the longer side this time of the year, so it's just easy.

Just two. Since I live on a series of islands, my riding is confined a bit and finding a water stop is easy.

most of the time, one. in san francisco, its not that warm and there are lots water fountains around. When it's a hot day or I'm gong for a long ride (more than 50 miles), I carry one small and one large bottle filled with gatarade.

Nope, with a real professional job and family time it just ain't happening. Been there, got the tshirt. But priorities vary, as do jobs. Maybe one day.

Oh and 2 bottles on a 60 miler, 1 or none on a 30.

Yeah ... I had a "real professional job" for 8 years. But when they started talking about sacrificing our personal time more than we already were ........... I hit the road ... literally ... I went to Australia and cycled there for 3 months. Then returned to University and a different career path. I still work part-time in my "real professional job", but as a temp. It's much nicer.

Families, however, can dig into your cycling time ... unless you get them on bicycles regularly too. That's how I got into cycling. I've got many happy memories of cycling with my family while growing up.

Why so little hydration?
