Wind Warning
#26
I just got back from a morning ride with a few of the guys and it was a challenging 35 km... besides the high winds we also had to contend with a great number of fallen branches and even a little blast of snow.
I had a blast and next time I figure I should take the road bike instead of the commuter as it weighs half as much as the Trek and the gear I was packing.

When I lived in Regina, Sask. (flat prairies) in the 1970s, there was a strong West wind.
So I got my wife to ferry me to Moose Jaw to the west (about 50 miles away) and I rode back with that tailwind. I had no speedo, but I arrived home only minutes after my wife.
In those days, I didn't wear a helmet -- just a ball cap.
The wind blew it off and I chased it for a couple miles before retrieving it.

Dang! About to hop on the ride to complete some must do errands -checked the wind here in cowtown - 64 k from the west ( just under 40 mph). Of course I'm heading west the entire way! With my luck the wind will die or reverse directions on the way home.

I knew it - why does this always happen to me ???
So I head out into 60 k winds blowing right in my face, struggling to keep moving at a decent pace all 28 k, but thinking at least on the way home I'll be flyin' . Sure enough the minute I reach my destination the wind shifts from the west to from the north. All the way home I'm fighting a cross wind plus the temp dropped to about 3 degrees C ( 37 F ).

The wind seems to be dying off a little and we got a little more snow this afternoon...
I hunkered down in the bike shop and finally got around to building myself a new rear wheel for my Trek which completes a set... my old wheels will get my cross tyres so I can swap from the road tyres to ones better suited for light snow and slush.
