Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kreitler Rollers

First bikeforums post here for me. I just wanted some opinions on Kreitler Rollers. Which drum size is the way to go, I'm pretty certain that the 2.25" diameter rollers are a waste of my time, but I'm debating between the 4.5" and the 3.0" rollers. Is there any kind of consensus on the two? I've read that the 4.5 drums are too easy of a spin without the killer headwind unit, is this true? What about the 3.0" drums, do I need a killer headwind unit for that too just to have a nice little workout, by little I'm thinking 60 minutes and less. I would appreciate any thoughts or words of wisdom on this front, what experiences do people on here have with the 4.5 and 3.0 drums, with the killer headwind unit, or any combination thereof? Thanks

i have the challenger rollers with the larger drum. I use it with the killer headwind fan and it gives a great workout but the fan is noisy as hell. It's also harder to store with the headwind unit on there.

The headwind unit is adjustable but even at the lowest setting is a good workout.

Kreitler has a wattage charge that gives you an idea how hard product is. Personally I would get the 4.5 drums with a flywheel, not the headwind unit.

I have the Challenger Rollers. They are a perfect match for me and offer a WIDE range of resistance. Admittedly, they would be a waste if you didn't have a headwind unit or flywheels.
