Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ah well. At least the swarms of bugs I endured last week will be no more.
Do you really want to arrive at work 30 minutes before sunrise (assuming a relatively normal 800 start time)? All so you could get an extra 50 minutes of sunlight in the afternoon? I sure no one will stop you from going in an extra hour earlier year around if you really want to

Of course, your kids will be going to school in the dark. We tried year round DST back in the 70's. Just like disco, it was a disaster that no one should want to repeat

For those of us that ride in the morning, daylight savings is the worst thing invented by man during late winter and and early autumn months.

I ride with big groups, 30-70 people, and September and October riding has meant riding in pitch black, a foot from the wheel in front of me and rubbing elbows with riders next to me, all on heavily traveled Miami Florida streets. Its very disconcerting, to say the least.

Finally I can ride stress free in the mornings!

The "falling back" blessed me with enough sunlight for my commute this morning that I could take the Cervelo. If it means I get to ride the fun bike during the week, I'll take it.

DST affects different areas differently. It's pointless for areas nearer the equator and equally pointless as you near the poles. There's one band where is sort of makes sense for some types of people, and unfortunately, most of the people from the US live in this band. It's really a futile attempt to make people save energy... which is why AZ doesn't follow it. It actually ends up costing them more energy.

My route to work is mainly straight east, and then straight west on the way home.

Going back to CST means I'm going to be commuting home into the setting sun for the next few weeks. I could stay at work until after sunset, but that's just, well, lame.

Beats commuting to work into the rising sun, I suppose, when nobody has bothered to clear more than a 10-inch square of frost from their windshields.

Hell yes!

Anyhow, I have no desire to wake up at 3am. 4 is early enough for me.
My issue is simply that I can not get home before the sun sets on standard time. Riding busy streets in the evening rush hr in my suburb is suicidal no matter the lighting I have.
DST fits my commute and schedule better. Instead I drive to a park 5 miles south of my home and take the platte trail. At least it is a change of pace.
