Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yup, especially since that's the package with the long-running lithium batteries. I'd have bought it by now during this sale if I didn't already have some Dinotte lights.

It's a great deal; see if they'll give you two large batteries instead of two small ones. In any case it's a nice deal as I spent about $370 for the same system about a year ago.

Oustanding deal. You basically have a death star laser coming out the back and the front light id real nice also. I have both but paid nearly double that a couple years ago.

Dinotte also has a 600L headlight + 140 tail light package going for $405. Should I just shell out the ~$126? This one comes with 1 4-cell battery and 1 2-cell battery, while the 200L hl/140 L tl packages comes with 2 2-cell batteries... This also seems tempting, but it's probably more of an issue of WANT even though I don't NEED for me.

I guess I'll go for the 200L headlight and 140L tail light package.. As long as I can give people cataracts at will, I'm happy.

it's the 400 road rider's experience = 400l headlight, 400l taillight, 2x 2-cell lithium battery packs, multiple mounting options (tho, not as quickly disassembled if you want to remove them while parked...)

reg $449; on sale $349

I was considering getting bike specific lighting but it's just way over priced when you consider other options like bike mounted flashlights. This of course depends on the amount of use you're going to give the light because the downside of LED flashlights is they go through small batteries quickly. For my purposes my 180L Fenix does its job just fine, and with rechargable batteries I don't have to pay for new ones. Granted I'm not riding in the dark for hours at a time, so get what makes sense for you. If however you ride on the road and only need lighting for an hour or two, a small powerful flashlight mounted on the handlebars is a cheaper option. Fenix offers a really small light (T series) for $75 with a 225L output so take a look if it's a possible alternative.

I have both 400 and 200L's and the 400 packaging is easier to work with, is brighter and has a wiring system that easily allows you to use one larger battery, my suggestion.

In any case, you really can't go wrong with them!

trustfire TR-801 with cree Q5-WC is brighter than a dinotte 200L and only $50 with charger, a pair of batteries and a helmet or bar mount to top it off.

Are the batteries they use rechargeable though? I didn't want to get a flashlight that uses a battery I have to keep buying given the short run times.

They do take rechargeables, but the lights have a very short runtime and are extremely floody, with very little throw. I considered one, but I think I'll wait for the next generations of LEDs with will hopefully have a much better runtime.

..... that's like less than 1/2 my weekly night ride and ~ 1/3 of one of my roundtrip commutes. That would be a fail for me.

CUrrently I have a Princeton Tec Switchback 2 that lasts for freekin ever on one charge (a couple of weeks of usage on high....8-10 hours maybe) - well above what they listed in their literature, but it is too spot like and needs a little more flood. Not to mentino the overall brightness - get's a little hairy during pitch black single-track.

Can you nudge the 400 to adjust its aim like you can with the 200, or is it mounted pretty rigidly?

One thing I appreciate about the 200/140 setup I have now is that the O-ring lets me quickly adjust them downwards so I don't blind oncoming riders (at least, not as much as if it's aimed level).

Yes, I think it's a good deal if you want a purpose-built light setup that's durable, well-designed, and easy to use. The 200L is very bright, runs for hours on a single charge, and very compact. The tail-light is visible for miles, it seems. The cost is very reasonable for the performance you receive, IMO. Others may not agree.

Just to confuse you further: https://www.bikeforums.net/electronics-lighting-gadgets/

You'll get 1hr on high, and several hours (at least 4) on medium (250 lumens), which is still brighter than the high mode on any Fenix light, while providing better battery life.
And yes, the batteries are rechargeable.

yeah, the down side with flash lights is the battery pack, or lack there of. dinottes have a multi-cell battery pack.
there are two and three cell P7 flash lights, but those are too large and heavy for use on handlebars.

still, dispite the downsides, all you have to do is get off and replace the battery with a spare. The 18650s are sold in pairs and are $10/pair.

I picked up a flashlight you recommended a while back and got 4 batteries to go with it. All in all ~$100 for ~700 lumens. Not too shabby.
