Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Warmest arm warmers?

I prefer these over a long sleeve jersey or winter jacket. But my pearl izumi one's aren't warm enough for winter riding. What one's do you think are warmest?

I live in atlanta, so the coldest I will ride in this winter is probably 30 degrees.

I use these and have had little problems staying warm. Of course it was about 50 something with a headwind and I still did not feel a chill.

I think you dont need new armwarmers you probably need a ling sleeve winter/thermal jacket!

PIs (their therma fleece) are pretty darn warm (I use their leg warmers). FWIW I rode last week at 5.30am in the dark at ~20 degrees, I didn't have extra special arm warmers but did layer.......heres what I wore

Put on (in this order) shorts, wool socks, tights, leg warmers, arm warmers, regular jersey, thermal jersey, winter jacket, high-vis jacket, plastic grocery bags on feet, shoes, neoprene covers, neck scarf, hat, helmet, glasses, lobster gloves!

Thats it

Oh the water in my bottle froze during the ride!

I agree that the Pearl Izumi Thermafleece arm warmers are very warm. They are also soft and stretchy and very comfortable.

Haters. Both of you.

You need to take into account the fact that I grew up here with this amazing weather and I am more sensitive to cold. My 45 degrees is like your 10 degrees.

+1 for Pearl Izumi Thermafleece. I've had the same pair since 2000 and that included 2 winters as a messenger in Boston. They are warm and indestructable.

I have a pair of these, they are extremely warm for their weight/bulk because they block the wind. They are well cut, too, not just a baggy tube of material. $$$, though.

PI Thermafleece are the only ones I've tried, but they are very warm.

ibex's wool arm warmers are tough to beat in terms of warmth.. they're relatively thick compared to most warmers out there.

i love mine.

I'm liking Brandy's suggestion. One more question...Does anyone have any problem keeping leg warmers from falling down? Since the legs are constantly moving I hypothesize this might be an issue. Which one's stay up the best?

I use Exte Ondo arm and leg warmers and love them. They're kinda pricey I think, but very worth it. As for the leg warmers falling down; that has never happened to me with this brand or any other for that matter.

Again, I've only had experience with the Nalini leg warmers from PBK. They work great and do not slide down at all. I also have a pair of Adidas Climawarm knee warmers. They don't slide down either, but frankly, they're not very warm at all.

I just happened across a pair of DeFeet Armskins the other week (not the wool ones, I got the Coolmax version) and they're awesome, far superior to my other arm warmers (either PI or Sugoi). So far the Armskins seem really good for cool morning rides (30-40) but I get no sense of overheating. Great product - Brandy's on to something.
