Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cool integrated bike rack.....

This is a pretty neat bike rack concept. Although it may be only available in Europe (where Opel are sold). Maybe GM (who own Opel) will incorporate it into some of their cars in teh US.

and maybe GM will last another 5 weeks.

Don't hold your breath, but marketing to cyclist is really not a priority to the US Auto industry.

Brilliant design however.

Another reason we might not see it here: crash regs. According to https://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/t...aras-flex-fix/

Funny, no one seemed concerned about huge heavy rear tires held on with wood screws on SUVs.

Pretty neat, and it wouldn't be too much of a reach for them to bring that over to at least one vehicle in the US lineup: the new Saturns are basically rebadged Opels, and that car seems to be the Opal version of the Saturn Astra.

edit: none of that makes me believe that there is any likelihood of actually seeing that offered on any North American models.

You want to go back to the 50's when people died horribly from 10mph crashes? Or to the 70's, when cars exploded outright?
You like burning to death, or dying in a hail of glass?

You have no idea how good you have it because of safety regulation.
Go watch some crash test videos of Chinese cars on YouTube and then wave your Libertarian flag again.

Yeah, road safety. I was reading this on my cell phone while driving and eating a Whopper with my stereo blasting through my iPod.

The rack is available on the Corsa (which the US doesn't have) and the equivalent of the Saturn Vue (which the US has - but w/o the rack option).
