Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 07 Giant OCR2

Oh yea! These are clipless...

So today I bought some clipless shoes for my road bike. I bought Specialized sonoma's. I have Shimano SPD M505 pedals on my 07 Giant OCR 2 and was looking for something I can still walk around in when I arrive at work or a store without tearing up the floors or sounding like a horse. I have had the bike for a little over a month and have put on just under 200 miles. This is my first time out trying clipless shoes. I have the screws to the pedal clips almost all the way out (about 3 clicks tight) allowing me to easily get out without to much work (although I do notice some play when I'm in, hopefully that's normal?). So I'm cruising along for a short 8 mile ride to test them out. I pedal into my apartment complex to be stopped by the same guard I have passed for the last 4 years and wave to as I drive by. " Um excuse me sir!! SIR!!! SIR!!!! Where are you headed?!?!?!" Well me not being used to clipping into pedals for but 15 minutes, applies the brakes and starts to stop only to forget to unclip out of my pedals until i started to teeter over... Luckily there was a tall curb to my left which allowed me to put my hand/foot down and not completely look like an idiot or bang up my bike...

Just thought I would share my embarrassing story with you all!

Welcome to the Clipless fall club.

Mine was at a traffic light where I began falling over, desperately attempted to pull out and ended up going down. I hit the car next to me (helmet to bumper)

The driver probably thought the cyclist next to him (me) had a seizure (since I was jerking desperately to unclip) and them fall over.

He came out of his car very worried about me. I put him at ease, explained what happened then rode home with my tail between my legs.
