Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Thanksgiving day ride

I did my first annual Thanksgiving day ride this morning. Nothing to brag about and nothing that's going to get me into the running for the PCad 2008 miles contest, but it's good to be able to still ride on a regular basis this late in the season so I had to take advantage of it. Did 25 miles in the wind, spent a good portion of the ride in the 39 ring. My average for this ride is somewhere in the neighborhood of 20mph, today I came home at a disapointing 17.5.
At least I won't feel so bad after stuffing myself later this afternoon.

Anyone else ride today?

I rode with my regular weekend group today. It was a balmy 30 degrees here in Ohio this morning. I came back sweaty, shaking from the cold, and grinning from ear to ear. The best part of the ride? I didn't get shelled off the back like usual, and even took some respectable hard pulls up front.

I also enjoyed the warm-up banter as the guys started comparing what parts were coldest, fingers, toes, whatever. I told them to HTFU and ride. What do you know? Nobody was cold after that! Thanks for the lessons, pcad!

I did about 17 miles. Don't know about speed; no computer.

20F when I left for my SST workout. 1.5 hrs with 1hr at "SS" and I was cooked, mentally (from the cold and wind) and physically (following my 2hr SST yesterday)

LOL, me to... I was only allotted a small portion of the day and that was unfortunately before the kids awoke. The 27F outside this morning was just a tad cold for me. At least I burned a few calories on the rollers and worked up a good sweat this morning!

Yikes, I can't stay on those things for over about 60-70mins. Can't stretch out enough or find a sweet spot for my butt. 2hrs and I'd have a puddle below me!

I had to get up early to get in a ride before the annual family Thanksgiving Day hike. Instead of hiking I had to unclog the main drain line as water was overflowing our downstairs toilet. A miserable job with just hand tools as it took over an hour of snaking to clear the clog.

I did the 5-mile Turkey Trot this morning, so no ride for me today. I did get in a ride yesterday though (only 25 miles though).

Left the house early this morning and went for a 40 mile ride into Nyack. I felt like riding further north but had to come back to make butternut squash soup for the dinner tonight. Nice morning to be out though.

Yep I did started before 7 then I got caught in a cold rain. I forgot the part of the forecast that said rain and I was celebrating the fact that it was actually above freezing when I started and expected it to get warm up to 40. Yeah 40 with rain, freezing at times. My fingers hurt from this excursion.

Just got a used tubular Rolf Vector Pro. Great shape and I got it for really cheap with new tires. First time out and it got soaked. It's not really a bad wheel even for climbing. I got it because 303s/404s are a pain for day to day riding and my GEL-280s are are a bit wobbly on hard descents. The Rolfs are good descenders, the GEL-280 seem to have a built in speed limit at 41 mph.
