Tire Question

I've been riding some Bontrager Race Lites and surprisingly I loved em. Haven't had a single flat with these tires and they seem to grip and wear acceptably.

The only other tire I have much experience with are the Michelin Pro Race 2 tires.....liked them as well.

What's the best thing going these days?

I have not ridden Mich in a loooooooong time. Can someone tell me if they are not as prone to cuts as they used to be? It seemed I never used to get the full wear out of them before they would be unserviceable do to cuts. We just starting carrying Vredestein tires again after about a 5 year hiatus. I am curious to assess their wear and ride quality.

By the way I voted for Vittoria Open Corsa now a 320Tpi tire.

Really  my Conti 4000s. I've also got a soft spot for the Attack/Force pair.

Me too. Second season. Not a single flat last year, on Paris-Brest-Paris, while hundreds huddled in the ditches, in pissin rain.

They are very fast in independent tests, as well.

Looks like the Conti GP4000 is the clear winner so far......although the Pro Race 2 is leading the polls. I wonder if you can edit the poll so I can include the Conti?

I voted Michelin but that's only based on my friend's experience with them and he uses his bike for commuting and leisure. I use my bike for training/leisure and have been very happy with Michelin Krylion Carbon which are currently very difficult to get hold of so I'm using Continental Ultra Gatorskin.

The ride is a lot harsher than Krylion but I'm hoping I'll get very few flats (I was already impressed with Krylion's flat resistance - is there a petition or something to get Michelin making these again?) in return.

For me I prefer the ride and feel of the Michelin Pro3's over my Conti 4000's but the Conti's seem to provide a much longer lasting tire.

That's what I am riding currently and I love em. Not a single flat even being a Clyde and good mileage out of them so far.

There are two GP4000 types, with black chili and without. All black tires since 2008 have black chili, GP4000S has silver lettering instead of the orange decal. All color tires do not have black chili, and are excellent tires as well. I still have a blue pair on one of my bikes.

Good thing you said mostly because a Vittoria Evo has a significantly better ride than Conti.

Vireo - how are the Vittoria in terms of flat resistance and longevity?

I think most folks are voting for PR3's - not sure if you can get many PR2's any more. I voted PR3's based on pretty good experience with my set for ~1600miles so far. The rear started to noticeably square off by 700miles or so, but no noticeable detriment in performance. To Vireo's question, I've not had any problems so far. PR3's seem to polarize folks round here though - you either love them and the way they feel, or you have dreadful experiences with multiple flats.

+10 on the Conti GP4000 with Black Chili (black color only) or GP4000S

I find flat protection to be exceptional. However, I only weigh between 155-165lbs most of the year. Longevity is very good as well. I find the Contis wear more in the middle than the Vittorias. Remember I do ultras and if I race the shorter stuff I ride tubies. I don't race on clinchers.

Well I may have to try them again. I just remember that the Mich tires rode well below the quality of Vittoria Evos. Of the tires we carried in the store Conti, Mich, Vittoria there was no comparison that Vittoria had the better ride PERIOD. I say "carried" because we stopped carrying Mich because they didn't sell.
