Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not frequently called skinny. Fireplug like would be more accurate.

I've never been a Giant fan. Until I saw the new TCR Advanced 1 SL or whatever it's called. My god, what a bike. If I wasn't halfway through a build right now, I'd buy one in a second.

True. But for me the new TCR stands out more than any frame I've seen in a couple of years (Parlees and Calfees excepted as always).

Luckily for me, I don't have 8k for a bike, so it's a moot point anyway.

there are other versions of the bike that are a lot less. I believe they're the same frame, just different components. The version that is just under $8k comes with full Sram Red and Zipp 404's.

The Advanced SL 2 has seatpost and is good enough for a lot of people, $4200 MSRP.

I'm really happy for GIANT; they make a decent product, charge a fair price for it, and they're starting to get good brand recognition. Can't say I care for indecently light rides like some of you do (my newest ride will be based on a Columbus Spirit frame), but then again, if you're racing at such an elite level, then why not take every edge you can get.

Just when I had myself convinced the 07 TCR Advanced 1 was far and away the best bike I had ever ridden, along comes this thread.
It's no wonder gsteinb gets all the women. It's the bike, isn't it?
Or is it his BF personality? I heard women like that kind of stuff.....
Whatever the case, I can't compete, no personality and no 09 TCR...

PS - the 07 and 08 TCR Advanced are great bikes too, and the 07 is very stealth with the subdued logos.

I like the bike, at interbike I had the oppurtunity from my friend who is the canadian rep to pick one up. I said no.. No because I think the way the bike feels is very similiar to my Orca 2009. I did not like the end result with that bike. Now my Cervelo R3-Sl. That is another story as it provides me with the stiffness and compliance i wanted. Also for those who care for weight it is under 15 lbs with computer (heavy garmin) / pedals / and a 240 gram saddle. the giant is a very gorgeous bike if you like compact geometry and a very stiff rear end. Seat stays are gnarly design.

Well, if you have to think about it..... Besides, you were too busy winning races to have time for hooking up. 09's going to be a big year for you, racing, hooking up, the writing's on the wall

Back on topic, the reviews I've read on the bike have me drooling. But unless my current employer is going to guarantee me a job for the next couple of years, I'll remain content with my current 07.

I just noticed the review in the back of this month's Bicycling Magazine. There's a video review on their website at the bottom of the page:

I didn't open it but let me guess "Wow, this bike is amazing! 5 thumbs up!"

Just like every other bike review in that rag.

Yeah, more of the same, the "next generation in bikes, unique design, stiff but comfortable, blah blah blah".... just reinforcing what others on this board already seem to know I guess.

I still can't imagaine a better bike than the 07 version which is my favorite bike ever, but this clearly has it topped.

If you think Bicycling is bad, swing by your Giant dealer and pick up the "Giant Road Report Card". I like Giant, but that is just propaganda.

And Trek, Cannondale, Specialized and all the other players don't have marketing literature for their LBS's to help them push certian bikes on potential buyers?
I saw the Trek "marketing" playbook this past summer, quite impressive to say the least.

But I take Bicycling Magazine for what it is, bike manufacturer's marketing (sort of like BF). Even so, I still enjoy reading it and the different bike and gear reviews, even the advertisements for the new Pinerellos. Guilty pleasure? Maybe.
