Now that looks cold. I've been too much of a wimp to ride outside this year. Am going to go ride the rollers now...in shorts and a t-shirt...in a warm house...with no wind.

It's the only time I was able to unzip down to my base layer after the race and just see tons of "steam" coming off my chest. It was weird and neat at the same time....until I got cold....

So, how did you do in the race?
Our ride was 45-60 all day so a lot of us were overdressed. It was a lot colder last year.
I got pretty salty.

This one was the fastest woman there. She would drop me on all the long climbs.

She did a lot of research before she bought it. She even took her wheels with her every time she test rode a bike, just to take the wheels out of the equation. She is extremely happy with the Moots.
I just wish I was 20 years younger, better looking, and rich.

uhh....I was in 3rd.....

...and then I realized that snow and ice do not make for ideal racing conditions...

I kissed the ground a lot. I had a couple of DA mechanicals....no not Dura Ace mechanicals, rather "Dumb Ass" mechanicals. Kicked the bike and dropped the chain while jumping the barriers, then I jambed the brake caliper into the wheel on a missed remount on ice.....

.....I sprinted at the line to hold 23rd out of 52. It sucked.

Before my brain could even put that picture together I thought " *sigh* Jimmy Buffett..."

How you listen to him, I'll never know.

At least you finished in the first half! Can you run studded tires in a cross race?

Not sure. Could have used them, but to be honest I would have done fine if I could have run the tires low enough. I let some air out during pre-rides and found myself bottoming out. Fear of pinch-flatting caused me to put some back in. Thus the sliding began.

Wouldn't have happened with tubulars and to be honest that's the way to go with cross. From my point of view that's one of the only things that would ever make me want a tubular.

big john 12-08-08 11:54 PM

You could always go fixed gear.
