Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

MONDONICO frame,need's help

I'm new to the game. Have a 2001 MONDONICO frame that was custom made for a bike shop owner
by ANTONIO MONDICO. I've found that this is a nice frame. So I want to build it with a 2k budget.
Any suggestion's? Thank's.

Nice frame. I would recommend this group and, these wheels. This will leave plenty left over to finish dressing it with your choice in bars, stem, saddle, etc.

I counter recommend this group (but I don't know how to hide the hyperlink, sorry):
https://www.totalcycling.com/index.ph...7_centaur.html

With Record hubs on the Ambrosio rims they also sell. I've bought a group from Total Cycling in the past, and they were very good about fixing the mistake they made.
Your frame also deserves Deda Zero 100 finishing kit. Either that, or Pro PLT stuff in smoke grey. Something shiny, at least. The deda parts are available with steel or Ti bolts.

+1 for a Campy build, unless you have a reason to go Shimano (wheel sharing or parts you already have).

Very nice looking frame!

Thank's,it look's like it was hardly ridden.I have a 2k budget and that has to include tax
and having it built. I might have to drop in level to get it all done. Then down the road (2 yrs.)
I can upgrade.

$2000 is plenty of money and if spent smartly you will not have to worry about upgrading for a long time.

The group recommended by acorn user above is just over $600, wheels will set you back anywhere from $300 to $500 depending on what you buy, frequently you can find excellent used wheels on craigslist. You'll need $150 or so for handlebars and stem, and about $200 for good saddle and seatpost. Tires, tubes, bartape, bottle cages and such will be another $100. Pedals vary widely depending on what you prefer, and can range from $50.00 upwards depending on what you like.

Build costs vary with the self esteem of the mechanic, so hard to say.

Did you get a fork with the frame? Do you need a headset too?

Last advice - become familiar with totalcycling and pbk, they are both based in the UK and offer excellent prices on parts and accessories. You will not pay tax and with PBK you won't pay shipping either.

Build cost is $125, I've seen it between $100 and $250.

It came with a TIME carbon fork and a Campy headset. The fork is 1" threaded.
I'll use it for now.The Mondonico steel fork replacement cost is supposedly $400.
Seem kind of high?

I have Veloce and it works OK, but I think that frame deserves a higher groupset.

No, not for a really nice fork. People spend that much on carbon forks, so why not on a hand made steel fork? Admittedly, you could probably find a suitable fork for less, but it makes sense to go for the fork the master builder intended to be matched with the frame (I would not have used any other fork with the original build).

Centaur is a really nice group. This year, you give up the slick finish if you go to Veloce, but it is functionally very similar and you should not feel bad about saving money on components where it is sensible; and that would be a good place to do it. I'd rather spend the money on the frame than the components.

IMO, if you are debating between fork and upgraded group get the group. You can always upgrade the fork if you are so inclined and it is much easier to do than upgrading a group. Centaur is a fine group, will look nice on your bike in the polished metal finish and will last a long time.

Time carbon parts are first class, so you should not feel you have an inferior fork, but if you do want to get a steel fork go for the original.

if you want to go threadless, get a Deda or Mizuno fork and paint it to match the frame.

I'd be surprised if the Mondonico fork isn't threadless.

Just want to give an update. Contacted Todd at Torelli
and he had one steel Mondonico fork with the AM pantograph.
After exchanging some measurment's,we found that it's a match.
They are going to chrome it and I should see it in a couple of week's.
Thank's everyone for your input.
