Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jesus, every time I see your pictures I transport myself to another land. Thanks for posting. I would seriously give what I don't have to have roads like that around here. Especially the part without gigantic trucks filled with rednecks and tons of traffic.

Nice pictures, glad you're having a blast!

Your charcoal sketches are pretty good as well

The last one with a man in the hat kinda made me think of Hemingway for some reason. Looked like the sketch belonged in 'A movable feast'.

awesome as always my brother. I am holding it down in Cali for you should you come back and want to ride our horrible/traffic filled roads once more.

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for posting. Is there a background thread on your purpose for being in France? I'd search, but I wouldn't even know what text to put in the field.

You're a lucky man...

My wife and I have aspirations of owning a retirement home in France (she's from Burgundy). We try to visit at least every other year, I don't think she appreciates it as much as I do.

Awesome photos, and even though they are just photos it's nice to see green in contrast to the white and gray that will part of New England for the next 4 months.
Thanks! I can't wait to see the photos of the Classics.

Does France also have Christmas/holiday markets in the town central squares (as typically found in every German town)?

Lovely photos and write-up, as usual. You're the envy of many of us here on BF.

Our time in Normandy didn't include cycling but future trips certainly will. I know you're not near there but the topography looks similar. I don't think you can go wrong cycling in France.

I like your drawings as well. Someone else observed that the last drawing is reminiscent of Hemingway, and I concur.

Do the blog.

They do, the villages tend to go all out for Christmas with lights and decorations and typically there are holiday gift markets in the square. I was in the small city of Albi yesterday and people were out in masses doing last minute shopping and just cruising around. We've been laughing at all the houses with little santas hanging out the windows on rope ladders. whoever came up with those here is probably enjoying Christmas on a yacht off the cote d'azur...

Thanks for bumping botto.

SurferBruce, great pics. Loved the sketches, and a third vote for Hemingway.

I have a dream of living in Europe for a year or two. I want to see more soccer games, ride more, eat better, go to a few of the classics and the Tour. Till then, your pics will provide a bit of inspiration.
