Elite team sponsorship - does it influence your purchasing of noncycling products?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did too, but it sucked so bad that I went back to Nokia and now LG. Much more reliable product it seems.

Which leads to the question:
Are AMGEN products "noncycling"?

Yes, I tried Gerolsteiner water once because they supported a team, formerly. It tasted like ****, but I tried it.

I did buy a Festina watch only because of their (former) sponsorship. It hasn't made me any faster though.

In europe there are many elite (not sure what to call them? ) and older division 2-3 teams that had sponsorship from the local government or from things that don't really nedd advertising (abitior for instance)

it's just the owners of the business like to fund and have a cycling team to some extent.

I like to give the companies a reason to continue their support of cycling. I even like to support my own sponsors; like I ate at Texas Roadhouse a few times in Louisville last month, and I [naturally] support the bike shop that sponsors whatever team I'm on, even if I can get a product a little cheaper elsewhere.

Definitely. Given competitors of roughly equal quality, I'll go with the one that sponsors cycling.

I would pick Columbia first if I were buying something in their clothing category. I've eaten at Chipolte and would do so again. I did buy a Garmin nav device for my car, but that was before their sponsorship. I definitely ride in the slipstream of others whenever possible.

Yes I do. I am even willing to pay more. Depends on the situation, but I appreciate support of cycling.

I have made the concious choice to eat at Chipotle because of their sponsorship.
I have specifically paid more for Colavita Olive Oil because of their sponsorship.
I have specifically bought a slurpee because of 7-Eleven's sponsorship.
I have specifically taken the High Road when faced with difficult ethical issues in my daily life...because of their support of cycling....

....this stuff takes dedication.

I have definitely started to eat Chipotle burritos on a regular basis - but I think that is just because they are so good, and I can see them made right in front of me.

No. I wanted a Cervelo SLC when I saw it on the cycleway.....funny thing is I was new in cycling and did not even know Team CSC at that time. Found out about the Pros and this forum later on...the rest is history.

Gerolsteiner is utter 5hite compared to Apollinaris. Plus, I think it makes your dome grow and turns you into a doper.
