Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I just grabbed my used Zeros, I'm putting them on right now and noticed the cleats look alright but the top plate of the cleat is pretty worn. I have two new pairs of X type cleats and the top plate looks exactly the same as the zero top plate, are these two cleats using the same top plate. If so can i just swap out the newer X top plate on my Zero cleats?

Just curious: why would someone buy Ultegra rather than Look Sprint - at PBK, the Looks are a little cheaper and quite a bit lighter. The Look Classics are even cheaper, and lighter than Ultegra also. I'm genuinely curious having used neither, but considering both.

I'm definitely feeling the Zeros now that I have them set up, i still prefer the more solid feeling of the look style platform though. In the end, after I got my ticket from the city of burbank for my red light on the bike ticket...it really doesn't matter what I want, it's what I could afford lol.

go for the 105, same as ultregra or splurge for the DA (they spin easier than the 105 or ultregra, not that this matters much really).

I just got some from them yesterday in the mail and mine were in a plastic zip lock bag. one pedal was wrapped in saran wrap and the other was naked. they are new, however, and come with all the hardware. the gray cleat does not have the rubber feet like a different set I received which were NIB. But they may have been an entirely different type of cleat. I can't really recall if the other was gray.

p.s. I'm a long time speedplay x series user. I had a fit recently for a new bike and tried some different pedals and saw the light. For my pedaling (ultra elite, no float needed) I noticed a huge difference with the look pedals.

I would've gone zero, but the price annoys me and the cleats even more so.

I noticed my friend's new 105 bearings weren't as smooth as my other friend's ultegra pedal bearings. the 105 pedals would not spin as smoothly and required more time to rotate back to its neutral slightly angled upright position.

I switched to Dura Ace after long time on speedplay... the pedal bodies wore out so bad that my feet were canting to the side (after 1 year 10000km on brand new zeros). The Shimano pedals are wonderful, great on the ankles, and I will never go back.

For me the speedplay float eliminated years of sporadic knee pain. Float is good.

How long was each pedal used for?

Some wear can make them smoother. Also, it's not like there's really any resistance there anyway...
