Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

post ride meal

I just finished a 3 hour base mile ride(ok there was a good 20 minute climb). held my heart at 88% average.

I like to eat a PB and honey sandwiches after I ride.. I always feel GREAT after eating them. Eating 3 right now and watching the TDU's 5th stage.

Whats your post ride/race comfort food?

it used to be a cigarette.

these days it's nothing, for at least 30 mins, usually 45-60 mins.

then it varies.

Um, let's see...Three sandwiches stuffed full of fat and honey, maybe a little salmonella as a bonus. Yeah, that would taste good.

If you're going to eat sugar, the best time to do it is during or shortly after exercise. I don't remember why, I just know I read it in the training bible.

Peanut butter? Chicken?

You're all going to die of salmonella.

Girly-man sandwiches ^

You gotta go for Elvis's favorite; the Fool's Gold sandwich: A full loaf of bread, a cup of butter, a pound of bacon, a jar of PB and a jar of jelly, totaling about 9,000 cals per sandwich.

I did 90 miles today.

I just got back from a trip to Sonic and Taco Bell.

Someone kill me.

....nevermind - I'm doing a fine job of it myself.

OJ with protein, 3 pieces of pizza, and some coffee. That's what I had today after a mild five hour effort up, and around Tam.

I don't have any sort of special post ride meal. Just whatever I was planning to eat at the next meal.

I sometimes eat a pre-ride brownie that could get you arrested outside of California.

Makes doing base mile VERY interesting.
