This isn't the first time. I'm guessing he is a sock of someone that has been banned in the past and has some kind of obsession with me. If you look at his posting history, he tends to gravitate to me. :p

Last year I was able to hit 41.7mph on a flat sprint. Man that was rough. My legs died after doing the sprint, and then I still had to go over a few rollers to get home. They felt like mountains though...

Right now, since I haven't been training, I bet I could still manage 35.

As for maintaining speed on a flat, a few of my friends I and decided to do a 30 mph pace line with 15 second rotations. We went until people started dropping.

The guys I ride with all claim to be out of shape but consistently hit 33mph during our weekly sprint up very slight 1degree< incline and mild head wind, but am told to expect to see 40mph in racing season. That 33 is attainable for the short burst to me now without too much difficulty, however the thought of pacelining at 30+ is beyond my comprehension.

Are you and the friends doing that 30mph paceline NOW or is that after the Spring season. (our group pacelines in the 22-25mph range (depending on how many hammers show-up) for 42m with ~3min break for everyone to regroup after the spirited sprint)

roy5000x2 01-26-09 11:52 AM

No no, this was back in the fall. Most of the guys I ride with are cat 2/3. The pace line only lasted for a couple of minutes with 5 of us in total. It was absolute hell. I only got through 3 pulls before I dropped.

Yeah I can relate to that. Amazing how I can feel fresh and then all of a sudden when a few hammers decide to kick it up to 27+ how quickly a single pull can gas me.

Good news is that I am definitely noticing conditioning improvement and it might have to do with visiting "absolute hell" on occasion. I am hoping to pick my spots and dish out my own hell this Spring/Summer.

So what's the point of copying my posts?

I normally would not post my sprint speed but this time I seem to be in the pack. Racing and training was new to me this past year since it was my first foray into that aspect of cycling. My son and I would sometimes do sprints from a roll for 200 yards to reach top speed. The course was flat and we would alternate the direction each rep with a 4 minute rest. One day in particular I maxed out @ 32.7, 33.4, 33.7, 34.6, and 32.1 mph. Now at age 56, if I ever am in contention in a race at the end, I'll go for a win. Probably not gonna happen now that I've upped to Cat 4 so I can get my *** handed to me in Masters races.

35 mph in a sprint workout--hit the bottom of a hill at 27ish mph, about 33 mph solo (that was last year).

In a prologue I have done 30.6 mph for about four and a half minutes, provided the length of the course was accurate. I got third in that, missed first by less than a tenth of a second.

Yeah there is a guy (Hammer with a capital H) in our group who last year rode for the first time in 55+ @Cat3 figuring he would be able to start winning. (the Hammer's racing knowledge and tactics are sound) Found out that it just draws more competitive physically gifted 55+ riders from a larger geographical area.

Personally I enjoy the group rides and look forward to our Tortoise and Hare rides come Spring.
BTW congratz on the sprint speeds.

Do you know what your power was for that?

Easy Racers Gold Rush recumbent in 1986, ridden by Freddy Markham. Here's a picture:

I might look into one of those; probably wouldn't hurt as much to crash. :crash:

I'd be leery of being duct tapped into a bike.

Sprinting can be improved. But a winning sprint is from someone who works on it, and has the fast twitch gift from god. Personally I would trade my burst for a better ftp. But the grass is always greener.

i hope this hasn't been posted yet. though, the wind factor definitely plays a role here.

No. That was a year ago before I had a power meter. I wish I did though.

kensuf 01-26-09 01:36 PM

I hit 202 beats per minute while bridging into a break this past Saturday.

The speed was somewhere between 10 and 100mph, that's all I'll say on that.

Ames 01-26-09 01:38 PM

http://video.aol.com/video/bike-spee...record/1905789

Downhill hit 163 kph but his stop was pretty rough.

gr@sshopper 01-26-09 03:29 PM

52. 4k ft descent, then a nice flat. I thought I was going to die.

Really though, in July, I was doing a 20 mile loop around Big Bear Lake at about 20 mph. It felt pretty flat, for CA. I can't remember the residential streets I tacked on to make 20, but this is an approximation. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2517962

I can gut out maybe 30-31 for a couple of seconds?

DannoXYZ 01-26-09 03:31 PM

Where's that video of Pcad hitting 40mph in a sprint? Boonen can hit around 47mph with 1600watts+ There used to be a cat-1 track guy specializing in kilos in my area. He'd hit 44mph on his own. Even drafting behind him the whole way, there's simply no way I could come around him to take a sprint. I'd come out of his draft and see my speed drop to 43mph... 42...41... etc as he continues on at 44mph. :(

Rory or Adam?

ridethecliche 01-26-09 04:04 PM

I can hit the mid to high 30's in a sprint.
