Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Some bare necessities:

Patches. A lot of patches!

IceToolz cable cutter, because none of those other ones would "cut it!"

And a LASCO 52T chainring set to get my Vybe "up to speed"...

I just bought a new winter bike. I am hoping it has other uses for me as well. It rides well in snow. I can't wait to try in out on a rural (gravel) road and/or limestone path.

I was thinking of getting the PARKTOOL PRS-21 but was swayed by positive reviews for FEEDBACK SPRINT. GTK - Thanks!

Nothing that cool. The Access "old turnpike" gravel bike. A Performance Bike exclusive at $650.

Every winter I mull-over the idea of a mountain bike... thinking I might get a little riding time in on the snow. This year I decided a Gravel Grinder might be a better idea.

I had not saw that bike before. It's a nice looking bike at a great price, I don't think you went wrong there. Do you have a good idea about how much it weighs? (weight for what size)

That's a great deal.

I wish it would fit, but it's too long for me.

Normally I ride a 56, mostly because I am old and arthritic, charts generally size me as a 58. But these are sized odd. A 53 would have been a perfect fit... but they are made in 50, 52, 54, 56, and 58. So I ended up with the size 54 which is pretty comfy. But I may replace the stem with a shorter one to shorten the reach.

I added bottle cages hoping for ride-able weather, changed the saddle, added campus pedals (both mtn bike clip-ons and platform pedal, combo). And even hung a fully packed saddle bag. Total weight- 24.27 pounds. would guess stripped and pedal-less it should weigh about 22 1/2 pounds.

With a little adjustment.... all my bikes end-up measuring nearly the same. Of course that doesn't mean they all feel as comfortable. I had to get a size smaller than I normally would have expected to. It does appear to be a bit odd sized... IMHO.

Just based on my test rides... I think I am going to be pretty happy with it. And... now I need to find and buy more bicycle accessories too.

Well done Dave Cutter. That looks like a fantastic bike. I keep thinking I need a bike like that for winter because my only bike is one that I worry about crashing in icy conditions.

According to The Rules... (#12) the minimum number of bikes a cyclist should own is three.

I have a rain/winter bike. But it is really just an older road bike. The c25 tires... don't offer any additional traction. And being an older (retired) guy.... I consider the cost of bone repairs above the cost of bike repairs. I will sell the other bike (and maybe one more) come spring to defray the cost of the gravel bike.

But to be honest... I really wanted to try disc brakes and (maybe next winter) tubeless tires. It's all for fun.

Nothing special. Just needed replacement cleats for my Sidis. Got these from Nashbar.
