If there is a cycling god....
He is trying to tell us people here in the normally frozen, ice, snow, and salt barren northeast... "ride mother****ers, ride!"
And to that i'll say amen.. and i'm off!!
February 8th, 2009
NYC Forecast:
Partly cloudy.. 56 degrees...

Cycling is a polytheistic religion; there are many gods of cycling.
You have received the proper revelation by feeling that you should go ride.
Now, Read. My. Sig.

Ummh...which god do I pray to to help me clean up my sandy, salt-encrusted rusting steed? An hour and and a half of soaking wet roads followed by an hour of cleanup...yuck... Not to mention the wife's toldja so's... Still, it beats another afternoon hanging with Coach Troy or listening to Carmichael blathering on about Lance...

True that. 93 miles in bib shorts today at around 60 degrees F. Hooked up with some other racers mid-ride and got in some wicked Tempo work as well. Sun is shining, birds are singing. Praise the cycling gods!

News flash: just like winter temps can go 15-20º below normal, they can go 15-20º above normal. That's called a 'normal winter temperature range'.

We did 52 mi. today in, well, bizarre weather. The roads were wet. I mean really wet. I rode yesterday, and the roads were dryer. And it didn't rain last night. The roads appeared to suck all of the moisture out of the air. And then there was the wind. The wind finally dried out most of the roads, but it was in our faces for 90% of the ride. On a circular route. Go figure. Temps got up to 60.
We ran into the Rutgers cycling team in Frenchtown. Looked like about 15 of them. Some guy who just happened by with a camera had them line up to take their picture. Nice gesture.
A good day to be riding.

Any day is a good day to be riding. At least it wasn't 14ºF like Saturday AM (we also rode the day before and it was frigid).
The warm temps were nice, but many of us on the Nyack Ride were over-dressed. Large turnout (50+ guys) for February, and they were absolutely HAMMERING today. Windy as hell, it broke up into several groups that all came back together except the 2-3 usual suspects (including one of my team mates who is a monster) who seem to slip away each week. Then it starts RAINING and it turned into Nyack-Roubaix. I looked like G. Hincapie in Roubaix after that ride, road grime from head to toe, my new bike was a mess.
I had a pretty tough time on that ride today but I hung in there and was in the top 10 in the bunch sprint up the hill at the end. Good workout. The weather was more like April than February.

60 miles today in both prospect park and central park and some time on the greenway up to about 110th St until I said F it to the winds and headed to central park which was good but very wet.

stole your bike
I kept hoping the wetness on the roads would dry up as the morning progressed but no such luck, and that meant spending a portion of my afternoon cleaning the bike out since the grit and grime got EVERYWHERE.
Loved the weather though, even with the strong winds.

Great temps today. Did two hours. The sun was shining, and the roads were dry.
But fortune was not on my side. Just before the last left turn I saw my neighbour up ahead walking his dogs. I turned sideways to wave and say hi as I passed him, and then leaned into the turn. I wasn't going fast, but it didn't matter, because...
BLAMMO! I went down. It was literally as if someone had tied a rope to my frame and pulled it out from under me. The sun had been shining and it was slightly above freezing all afternoon, so the roads had been mostly dry, but I just caught some moisture at the wrong time. My hip took the worst of it, but the shoulder's a little sore. And may I take this opportunity to extoll the virtues of helmets? My head made contact, but my noggin feels fine, and thankfully my neck feels fine too. I don't like the idea of sideways whiplash at all...it just occurred to me that the inch-and-a-half thickness of the helmet serves to prevent that, somewhat.
Helmets are good.
Surprisingly, or perhaps hearteningly, there's no real swelling or bruising on my hip, just a tiny bit of red road rash. My bone took the brunt of it. I'm limping and sitting down tenderly, but the pain's not too bad. Though I expect I'm going to be in a world of hurt tomorrow!
Public service announcement born of experience: wear your helmet.

That's because you live in Canada. CANADA. Do you hear me? It's cold up there! Do I need to spell it!?
Merckxicus is telling us all to ride, and that's what I'm doing. I'm gonna down my breakfast of deer steaks, eggs and toast, then ride my ass off.
