Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sidi shoes, questions

sorry, I had to repeat post due to user name issues

I have been to lbs and tried on both Sidi and Shimano shoes. I don't know much about bike shoes but the Sidi felt superior to Shimano. Is this the general consensus view? I am tossing up getting either the Sidi 5 or the Sidi 5.5. I think Sidi 5 are the older model. Am I correct? If so, is there much of a difference between the two in terms of quality? Finally, I have old Look pedals (delta cleats); Will these old style cleats fit Sidi shoes?

I do about 200 km per week riding and am hoping to complete L'Etape du Tour. Right now, I use some old DMT triathlon shoes so I need to get some better shoes for the months of training ahead.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

One thing I warn people about is not to even look at the Sidi section in the shoes. Even more than that do not try them on. If you do try them on- you have to buy them. The problem is that I cannot warrant the price label- even if they are the best around.

Instead I have to buy cheaper and put up with the bit of discomfort that I would not get with a pair of Sidi's.

Hi, I'm in Sydney too.

I've gone from Exustar carbon sole shoes to Sidi Genius 5-Pro. They're the new 2009 model.

I bought them at probikekit.com (UK online shop) for ~A$220 posted. They were selling for A$360 in shops here. Took about 4 days to arrive.

My exustar shoes have been relegated to commuting duties and bad weather rides (like today). I was quite happy with them till I got the Sidis. Now they feel like complete crap.

In my opinion they are a superior upgrade and I was quite happy with the price.

Cheers!

When it comes to Sidis, if you have to ask, you can't afford them. I know an independent bicycle industry rep who just dropped the whole line because their pricing had just become so stupid. That's all I ride, but they are on total crack with their pricing. And according to that bike rep, it is beginning to slam their sales performance.

Interesting to know which model Shimano shoes that you tried on?

Was it the SH-R300, SH-R220 or the SH-R160.

Probikekit have Sidi Genius 5.5 (not just 5) right now for $AUS246 shipped down under. All sizes from 41 to 47, in stock. Use the promotion code AUSRBR at the checkout and you'll get another 5% off. Not cheap, but doesn't seem like crack-smokin' pricing to me either for the best fitting bike shoes in the world.

Having dealt with sales reps for 20 years one thing I know is never believe anything a sales rep says.

I totally agree, I would have NEVER bought my Ergo 2's if I hadn't gotten them from PBK for 55% off. I don't, care anyone who pays $600 for a pair of Sidis off their rocker, that's not something to be proud of.

Get the shoes that are the most comfortable. Ignore the logo.

Get the Sidi's and move on. They are the best. I have had mine for 3 years and they are still in great shape. When you amortize the price over say 5 years, not so much.

+1

For me that's Specialized, due to the wide toe box. I used Sidis for years, but have become a Speshaholic the last 4 years. I have't tried the "mega" Sidi. Comments anyone?
