Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

very proud to join this club. late 80s/early 90s giordana capella tt bike. campy chorus brakes, seat post, cranks, front derailleur, levers. dura ace dt shifters and rd. modolo stem and flite. already ditched the scott aerobars, may ditch the mavic bullhorns, might try and track down some nice cinelli or other appropriate italian bars.

Why do all these bikes look so ill-fitted? (frames too big with short seatposts and/or really long stems, tilted seats and brake levers way too far back on bars)

Your just used to sloping geometry vs traditional, this gives shorter seat post. Hence why they don't look like MTBs. Saddles (there not seats) tilt is user preference, I know all mine are level.

If it works for them what is the problem? Here are two examples from 2 of the worlds best riders.

David Rebellin's Guerciotti. Check out the upward sweet of the drops. You should email him and tell him his bike is ill fitting. You can't win multiple classics like that.

Pozzato's Ridley. Check out at seat to bar drop and that longish stem. His bike is too small. You can't win Milan San Remo like that. You better let him know.

My "Italian" bike keeps calling me "Dude". What's that all about?

The frame has been sitting in the garage for the last 5 years after I took off the components for another bike. The wife asked what it would cost to get it back on the road. So with some spare parts and new shifters, chain and cassette we're back on the road for under $500. After riding it, I remembered why I love this bike.

Some very nice bikes in this thread. I've already posted here, but that was before I got a yellow saddle and (somewhat) matching bar tape. Ta-da:

P.S. Muchas gracias to Jynx for selling me that 3T Motus stem. It's stylin'.

Red ain't a bad color for a Bianchi, it's the national color of Italian things that go fast.

My Bottecchia Classic

My 1986(?) Bottecchia. I've kept it stored indoors since I got it about 12 years ago. Didn't do the build and I know almost nothing about the model, etc....any info would be greatly appreciated. All Campy except for calipers (Rival),front wheel (Aroyo) and peds (LOOK carbons).

Great looking bikes in this thread!
But I want to know if any of them can fit 25 or 28mm tires?
The classic forks seem wide enough, as do many of the stays.
Right now I'm especially interested in Colnago Master X Light and Tommasini Techno frames.
Anyone here running anything wider than 23?
