Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chorus vs. Centaur big difference?

I'll soon be building up a Colnago steel beauty. I wanna (of course) put campy on it. My goal is for it to be "carbonless". Is there a big drop off in quality from chorus to centaur? I was going to go pretty much 100% centaur except for the headset (1" Record). Opinions?

No functional difference in the '09 and the quality of Centaur is fine.

Saw a guy with a beautiful old Pinarello steel a few months ago, it had '09 Centaur on it and it looked awesome.

i'm sort of in the same situation, and from research i've decided to go centaur with chorus shifters. I've heard a lot of people do this because the chorus shifters feel a lot better shifting wise, i personally have tried both and agree.

well with 09 centaur vs. chorus it's 10sp vs. 11sp.

I believe for '07 and '08 it was just the Chorus and Record shifters that did NOT lose the ability to shift multiple gears in one shift.

Is this functionality once again available to Veloce and Centaur shifters???

you can do partial dumps with the new levers, not 1 click down at a time like with the QS levers.. I believe the lower end Campy is 3 down per shift which is fine for most people..

I put 2009 Centaur on my '97 lugged steel Pinarallo (electric blue color, I posted pics in your Italian steel thread), I couldin't be happier with it. I, too, went with the aluminum version of Centaur for aesthetic reasons. I think, functionally, it's great, too. They went back to microshifting for the front, sweep-several-gears-at-once for the rear, for 2009. In addition to the Centaur drivetrain and brakes, I went with Chorus pedals, and stuck with the Torelli tapered roller bearing headset that was already on the bike.

Chicks dig Chorus. Actually, chicks dig Record, but they dig Chorus, too, or at least more than they dig Centaur. They don't dig Veloce. And Mirage? Might as well be a eunuch.

At least that's what I heard.
