Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I love Craigslist -- pics of my new Calfee

I picked up a great deal yesterday, and thought I'd share some pictures. It's a Calfee Luna Pro, and it was built up with some nice (and some weird) parts. It has full Ultegra 9 speed, and yes, it's purple, and it's rockin' a triple. It came with a beautiful Thomson Elite seatpost as well.

The frame's a few years old and had the Calfee carbon fork with a threaded steerer and an extremely ugly stem, no bar tape, and some nondescript Mavic Open pro rims. The seller also had a Titanflex frame for sale, and I noticed a nice 1" steerer Alpha Q fork and Chris King headset on it. A little wheeling and dealing, and I ended up with these parts too.

Here's the result; 17.5 lbs with my light wheels, a bit more with the Hed Jets shown. I'll change out the groupset later this year, but I think I'm going to ride the Brasstown Baldbuster on it, triple and all. Best part is it was scary cheap.

Of course, what Kendall isn't telling you is that he also has a luggage rack (not pictured) on the bike that allows him to lug suitcases between hotels on road trips.

Seriously. He does that. And climbs hills doing it.

Great bike, I have had two Calfees. My first one with a Calfee Luna Pro and now a Tetra Pro. You should never have a problem with your Calfee and if you did, Craig can fix it.

By the way, Calfee is one of only if not the only bike manufacturer that will let you transfer the warranty on a used bike.

Ha! Great shot..and I had no idea I was on camera (or cell phone, it looks like). Took me some head scratching, but that looks like a Dahlonega Georgia hillside. Elefantino, your identity has been narrowed down to a group of..3?

I may scuff it and re-clear coat it; it has a few random chips but the decals are fine. I'm not worried about it right now.

I had a Tetra Tri frame previously and sent it in for repair twice; both times it was an adventure getting it back. Beautiful workmanship but they're disorganized.

I'm guessing you have no personal experience with Calfee or you're just plain confused. I actually had an early Carbonframes Tetra Tri that rode beautifully -- not too many ~20 year old carbon frames out there you can say that about. Everyone I've ever talked to who's owned a Calfee has raved about the ride quality and workmanship.

I've heard more than one Calfee owner tell me the experience of dealing with that company was less-than-ideal. Such a shame, the product looks gorgeous and from all accounts rides as good as the very best carbon frames available.

I have owned two Calfees and have delt with them on a few occasions and visited the factory once. My experience with them has been steller.
