The reviewed the Ultegra group in April.

Also, DA = Butter
Force = Ka, Ka, Ka, Ka-chunk.

Wish I would have bought a couple of 7800 gruppos when they were going for about $900. :(

You need to adjust your Force

It looks really nice. I'm sure it will be silent and ride like a dream.

The question is, would you choose this over the 2010 Force?

Nope. Especially since 2010 Force has BB30 option and the next frame I'm planning is BB30.

This is about all that's known I think. Just rumors.

And yes, it will supposedly incorporate an 11-speed cassette.

Yes....every day...until SRAM gets rid of their clunky shifting......I do like the Force cranks better though.

good thing it's a tool, and not a jewel.

I was really more concerned with the way the brake levers felt really cheap and flimsy in my hands, like toys. I could care less if the logo wears off, but the brake lever had a ton of play that didn't feel like it was really supposed to be there.

Actually, yeah. I think every piece of that Ultegra group is more attractive than the SRAM group. The 6700 Ultegra reminds me very much of 7800 Dura-Ace in appearance. And knowing Shimano, most of the 6700 group technology will be trickle-down from the 7800 (which is a good thing).

The only SRAM road group I think is even remotely attractive is Red. And that still doesn't look anything as nice as 7900 Dura Ace.

Booger 06-30-09 10:36 AM

A 50% price increase? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

intence 06-30-09 11:03 AM

Shimano's playing a dangerous game. I like their stuff, but the current prices aren't warranted, and with SRAM offering similar performance at a lower price, Shimano will have a difficult time holding their market share.

One thing we don't know is what OEM pricing is like. If '10 Ultegra costs OEMs about the same as '09, then things won't change much. If it's going to cost significantly more, then perhaps we'll see more bikes get released with Rival.

Steve90068 06-30-09 11:15 AM

I also just read that '10 force will weigh less than dura ace 7800 which therefore it should be significantly less than the ultegra 6700

Take your pick... dull dark gray anodize (DA) or dull silver anodize (Ultegra). Both butt ugly. And the shape of the cranks really looks like crap.

Carbon weave and shiny silver = beauty.

Does this mean I should upgrade my Suntour Vx?:D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....I think all the SRAM products are hideous...like a NASCAR car.

Ultegra 6700 is listed as 2301g with a double crankset.

2010 Force is listed at 2097g with a normal crankset (204g, or .45 lb difference) and 1951g with BB30 (350g less, or .77 lbs).

Let's see, so 2010 Force with BB30 costs less, weighs over 3/4 of a pound less, looks better...

rruff 06-30-09 11:43 AM

I don't understand why anyone cares about a "group" anyway. Just mix and match. The most important part is the shifters... get whichever you like the best for feel and function. Even if you like Campy, get Shimano/Sram compatible wheels (better dish and more options). Get a chain that works with the cassette. The Campy cranks are ok... the others suck or are ugly... so go aftermarket. Pick a nice looking and functioning R-der... DA 7700 or various Campy models. Get a JTek if necessary to make the shifting work.

Liking my Campy shifters, FD, and calipers (though wish I'd gotten TRP calipers instead)... DA 7700 RD, IRD carbon cranks, Ultegra pedals, custom White Industries Kinlin wheels, Pedal Force ZX3... all polished bright silver and carbon weave... light and cheap.

Unfortunately it is... Sounds like an old manual cash register when it shifts. An improvement that can be made to the SRAM gruppo's is Yokozuna cables. http://www.yokozunausa.com/

I may do that next season. For now, it is what it is.

I generally like the double tap over Shimano, but the front dr requires a certain amount of getting used to. Also, although the general ergonomics are very nice, the bulge at the bottom of the hoods seems to hit me in just the wrong spot on the palms of my hands. Maybe if I add some bar phat under the Fizik tape it would help smooth the transition.

I do like the looks of the Force over the new Ultegra. After about 6 wks of hard riding, everything still looks pristine on my '09 Force. BTW, I'm running a DA 7900 chain and DA/Ultegra cogs.

shabbasuraj 06-30-09 01:16 PM

BB86 is the only standard that matters.

AEO 06-30-09 01:29 PM

I like how the hubs have ZERO improvement over the previous generation.

kinda wish they brought back the pretty 6400 skewers

saratoga 06-30-09 02:01 PM

I always liked Ultegra, but their pricing is nuts. Not when 6600 went for $750 (the last time I bought it, that is). Don't get me wrong, 2010 Campy is off the deep end too. I heard the levers are supposed to be less bull horn-ish.

liquefied 06-30-09 02:34 PM

I'll wait until 105 gets this update.

davida 08-15-09 09:15 PM

Hi

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but does anyone know whether my current flight deck will be compatible with 2010 Ultegra?

Any update on this thread.

What's wrong with 7900 DA?

shabbasuraj 08-15-09 10:18 PM

Di2 PWNS EVERYTHING. /END THREAD

Falchoon 08-15-09 10:32 PM

I'd like Di2 but my budget won't allow it. I'm building up a new bike and was considering the 'normal' DA 7900 group but would consider DA 7800 or Ultegra 6600 as well, having trouble finding online shops that sell any groups apart from DA 7900.
