Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice needed 1 of 2

Hey Bike Forum Pals,

I recently got robbed and lost two bikes. I am rebuilding and have bought three different bikes, each having a great part or two. I plan to sell back the rest on Craigslist or Ebay. I need advice about which parts to keep. In this thread I have two rear derailleurs. I think the Dura is older, but I'm not sure and don't want to keep it just b/c it's Dura if the Ultegra is newer. They both seems to work well on their respective original bikes. They both have scratches. I'm hoping someone here can say difinitively which is newer and/or best to keep. I'm looking for the best mechanics, not necessarily the lightest.

i'd say that they're equal, all things considered. ultegra looks to be a bit of a longer cage?

Yeah the Ultegra looks to be a long cage made for a triple. You could use it on a double but the short cage Dura Ace will shift a bit faster. And if you are using a triple crank you would need to keep the Ultegra.
