The Ideal Cycling Vehicle
What's your idea of the ideal vehicle for traveling to races/rides with your bike/gear/friends, etc.
Pictures are encouraged, and feel free to be as practical or impractical as you wish.
I've decided that about a 30 foot box truck with a sleeper cab would be ideal, something like this.
No need for hotels, I can sleep (with a few friends even) in my truck, pretty comfortably. Plenty of room in the back to put a bunch of bikes with wheelsets, trainers, spare parts, tires, clothes, etc.
There's even enough room in the back to let a couple extra people sleep on the floor. I could travel with most of a team and all our bikes and gear, in just one vehicle.
This one is actually for sale for only $56,000. Not a bad deal really.
For a less fantastic idea, I would probably go with something like a Honda Element, and then getting a trailer to tow to races if I needed more space.

This would work well. Only $750,000 lightly used.

Uhm, any car with a trunk, so the bike is inside and out of the elements works just fine. You can then get at least 2 friends and gear in there too. Hotels are cheap, especially split 3 ways.
Would you seriously consider spending 56k for something you are going to use a handful of times a year.
Hell, for 56k, fly first class, stay at a first class hotel with hookers for you and your friends and have a limo chauffeur your ass to the races.

Otherwise referred to as the Rock Racing model, (well at least the hookers)

the wife and i are looking at vw passat wagons. they are common SAG vehicles in euro races. equipped with the correct roof rack set-up, i think this will be an ideal weekend ride for me.
as for now i have a vw gti which easily holds my bike, any gear i need, and gets great gas mileage.

Pretty much any smallish wagon with a hatchback is good for my purposes. Bikes to on top. Gear in the rear. Hatchback gives you a place to sit while you put your shoes on and stash a cooler of beers for post-ride recovery.
If an overnight is involved, I get a hotel room. I'm an adult, btw. I'm done sleeping in vehicles that don't have a crew.

I want a sprinter van. Not the greatest on gas mileage though.
The next car I'm thinking of getting is a Toyota Venza. I have the 1st gen Matrix right now but its a bit small. It'll only seat 3, one seat folded down for extra luggage and bikes on the roof.

Pulmor trailer! Put all your gear in the trailer and 4 bikes on top. It weighs less than 400 pounds empty, can be pulled by just about any car. Even fully loaded you can pull or push it around by hand. Very handy.
