I'm thinking Basalt or volcanic material like they make high end tripods out of.

The be-all and end-all of carbon will be single-walled carbon-carbon nanotubes.

you mean like calfee bikes have been?

Nude finish, tubes don't have a decorative weave layer.

those Calfees look funky in person. cool, but funky.

but maybe it's just because the only person i know with one rides a 68cm. which would look funky anyways.

I suggested it as a joke, which is kinda what cf and steel would be(is).

colnago tried carbon stays with their Master series a few years back....needless to say my LBS finally just sold their last one after waiting 5 years or so. Why ruin a beautiful classic steel bike like the master, which also has a 1 inch steel fork, with carbon stays? It just looked wrong!

If you are referring to nanotube, no. They do not use single-wall tubes. Waaaaaay to expensive at this point, and still in the research phase. A frame using single-wall technology would weigh maybe 1/4 of what those frames weigh.

They call it KLD (acronym for "Thousand Ladies Dancing") and you can see it on the neck of this bass guitar:

I think that would look hawt for a bike frame!

Campy carbon cranks already look like this.

Carbon bone implants. We can only shave so much weight off bikes. It's time to start thinking about taking weight off of riders. I'll be first in line to get carbon arms and legs.

And to think that all this time I believed it was interference from cheesesteaks and Tastykakes that were negatively affecting with my performance!

That's a cool idea, only 2 cons...

1) The dye adds up to the weight.
2) The dying process adds up to the price.

I'm surely not buying a CF bike that has a nice color, but is more expensive and a few grams heavier than her black sister (did that sound right?)

ninjaman 03-12-09 07:21 AM

Dyed carbon is out there, steel/carbon is out there, nude carbon is actually very popular already. Is there nothing new under the sun?

not2fast 03-12-09 07:31 AM

I'd like to see a clear bike frame, and components, so you can see the stuff inside working!

Also from Philly.

Higher modulus carbon in the Tetra-Pro and hide the weave with paint.

Even Higher modulus + Boron fibers for extra stiffness in the DFly-Pro and clearcoat or hide the weave with paint.

I'm not giving up my titanium implants in my bones. I don't have to worry about spontaneous combustion of the spinal cord and they're aero.

Edit: Not recommended for serious TT dudes.
