Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Might have been a little on the high side if you consider that Daytona is roughly equivalent to 105 or Tiagra-ish, but still not a bad deal.

Why do people proclaim that they "won" something and then ask if it's a good deal? Dontcha think that would have been a good question to ask before you bought it?

So, if you find out you paid too much for it, are you going to "not pay", or try to scam the seller into a lower price?

Well, I think it's a good buy, but it's a bit spendy for a college student like me, I am just asking since I don't know much. I just want a roadie for longer rides and even commutes around campus/town.

What do you think about the shipping cost? I think $80 is a bit too much.

shipping a bike can easily be a $100+ expense.

Where are you in relation to florida? He's gotta cover shipping.. box and padding.. insurance.. tracking.

These are the kinda things you should ask before you buy them.... you see that "ask seller question" he could have quoted you beforehand

I asked the seller to look into whether FedEx would be cheaper, we'll see.
Just sucks that a 600 bike turns into a 680 heh.

You all seem too angry, go ride more.

there's nothing wrong with asking the seller about shipping post-winning an auction on eBay, especially if he/she has never shipped a bike before and does not know.

There is something wrong with a) the mentality of "winning" an auction b) without doing any research and c) considering bailing on paying for the item if later deciding it wasn't a good price

Go ride more? I ride plenty, thanks.

Not angry... just not sympathetic to someone who bought something on impulse without any research.

you didn't post the auction link so we have no idea who you bought it from or what experience they have. how do YOU know how much experience they have shipping?

haha UMD puts in more in a month than i did last year

Do you know he didnt research? If so.... is the BF the ONLY source for information on bikes?

Yes...bailing and not paying sucks... I "sold" my bike twice on ebay...only to have the "winner" never pay.

I would be a bit apprehensive to post a link to an auction that, IMHO, is a good deal for me... how many other people may say "Hey, I like that...I'll bid too." and now he is out the bike that he came to the BF for advice on...only to have a BF'er sneak in and grab it.

Would you post a link to an auction that you were "winning" (sorry UMD) a good bike at a great price?
No offense to anyone in here........but I wouldnt!

Um... this counts as not doing research in my book: "still waiting on the total cost with shipping, but it went for $599. Am i overpaying? I don't know much about road bikes"

all your questions should be answered by the time you place a bid and/or win the auction. if he said 80 for shipping its a dick move to ask him to lower the price.

It takes balls to admit in front of us that you might possibly weasel out of a financial commitment to an individual on Ebay.

That's not the point. The point is that after an auction is not the time to decide if it is a good price. After an auction, you get what you get.

I wouldn't let eighty extra dollars of shipping, or even one or two hundred dollars of overpaying, stop you from buying the bike. If you ride it, you'll get your money's worth out of it.
