Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is Southern California: Pt.2

Vertical Bob and crew head up the 39 to see how far up we can get to Angeles Crest. Last time we made it to about 6000'. Today was closer (1 mile short of AC) but, the snow is still there...about 7000' was it? Anyways, back down 39, lunch at Cafe Williams, up East Fork to Baldy. 72 miles, 8700' climbing.

HH spots four Longhorn Sheep on a ledge above the road.

Black ice from 6K on was kinda sketchy, I was not the only one (I'm told) to fall on their butt. Mark made it to the snow pack but said it was hike-a-bike the final leg up to AC

Great, fun ride. Thanks to VB, Laura, John, Horizontal Heith, Lee, Irene, Paul & Mark.

Black ice...slow going.

Hanging with Adobo Velo at 6K.

Francis w/o any leg/arm warmers...yikes, it was way cold here.

Wow! Adobo Velo. Is that some Filipino cycling club? Great pics! Sometimes I wish I lived out West...

Shots and stories of the San Gabriels are always welcome. I'm planning a ride up there in May.

Nice shots. I love getting up the mountain passes early. 2 weeks ago I did Juniper pass at over 11,000' and if was fun to look down at people getting off the ski lift on Echo Mountain.
