Most French people do not like Lance and it is not because he won so many times but the way he wins it's to American there is no sprit in Lance he is a robot and the tour is about more than winning as I said it's a French thing. So the economics are not important to us and many feel having Lance is just that big money wins not at all the sprit of the thing.

Leave it to the French to dink with the race format so that only a robot can win, and then get mad when a robot figures it out and wins it 7 times in a row. Indurain was just as robotic but less talented. Going back to Hinault... now that was some good racing; when you could win by beating the snot out of the hill climbers before the first uphill stage.

I was watching the Tour de France in 1986. Where were you? Were you even alive yet mon petite imbeclie? To say Lance is a 'robot' is to diminish his humanity, and in response to that I can only say what Lance would say.

F'em.

Pedalhard, it Lance is too robotic, maybe Contador will have to blow your mind this year. Not too confident that any French riders will inspire me this year...or the next.

Then again, they financed part of the Revolutionary war for us, so maybe it's even.

How about just letting us race?

To be precise, we saved them from the Germans twice and they only helped us in the American Revolutionary War because they hated the British.

It is my understanding that the French are proud and arrogant people and that they don't like Americans because Americans are the same way.

My first hand experiences with French people have been good ones.

Grumpy McTrumpy 04-10-09 05:45 PM

Why is it that the obvious is lost on so many people?

The press do not speak for the majority in any country. They only claim to. I suppose the press would have us all believe that Americans can be pigeonholed as well. Nonsense.

pedalhard - are you French, Canadian, or French Canadian. If it's the last two, you're also an American, as are those from the U.S. and Mexico.

Yes French, there are no French Canadians only Quebeciose, I believe everyone knows what one means when they say American[north Americans would be the proper term] Perhaps I should have said it's a non north American thing?

Actually the Usa fought the war in the PACFIC against Japan and only joined in near the end against Germany the d-day attack also had Canadians and the British so lets not get to carried away.

In no way I have I taken anything away from Lance with my statement I'm only saying how the French see him. He is a very machine like person who we find too in your face for our taste not saying he is not a great rider but his way of being rubs the wrong way. As to my age I'm 55 and was living in France in 1986 so you have only shown what I said to be true that Americans would not understand why Lance is not liked. Oh lets not forget Eddy a true hero on all levels.[no he's not French but his style is what we hold dear.

I doubt you speak for the French people. In fact, you seem a little jaded and bitter. Good luck with that.

anyone who claims to speak for an entire population is summarily wrong.

"Only joined near the end" is a pretty serious mis-reading of history, unless you ignore the North Africa campaign and the invasion of Italy.

Grumpy McTrumpy 04-11-09 02:22 PM

not to mention the lend-lease act

Neither of those two should be seen in public without being fully clothed. He needs some cosmetic knee surgery and she needs to eat.

He should stop hitting on his daughter's friends.

Since after 24 tests they know they can't get him on doping, they will get him on a technicality. Sooooo Funny.

I saw Eddy win two Tours.

Eddy was a machine, he took no prisoners. Thus, his nickname..."The Cannibal".

I am not sure what Eddy you are referring to. Maybe Haskell?

Funny how the memories fade with time.

Eddy was a mentor to Lance. Obviously, Lance listened.

So, want to try again?

Remember Hinault, the last French rider worth a damn, telling Lance, "No gifts!"?

Was Hinault "in your face?"

You bet.
