Most "Road Realistic" setting on CycleOps Mag Trainer?
The cycleops mag trainer has five resistance settings.
Does anyone happen to know which setting most closely recreates the "road realism" (resistance from inertia, typical wind, etc) of a relatively flat road?
I'm looking at you power meter guys:
If you put out x watts in gear n, you go y mph on the road; which cycleops resistance setting gives you y when the same gearing is used and the same watts applied?
or something.

I have the trainer and I'd say none of the settings (I'd say no trainer can mimic real road too well, at least not without a huge flywheel). Just use the setting that offers suitable resistance with the gears you usually use.

There's no such thing as "road realistic".
The only thing that can possibly change "road feel" is the size of the flywheel. The bigger the flywheel the more inertia, the longer your back tire spins when you stop pedaling.

i'm basically trying to achieve-- as closely as can be expected-- an environment where the work performed in a particular gear on the trainer is similar to the work performed in a particular gear on a flat road on a nice day when in the 25-26 mph range in a 90°/90° aero position or deep in the drops.
watt for watt, one of the settings has to be closest; someone with a power meter can probably shoot a little insight into this.

If you have a PowerTap or something similar then you can do a correlation study between the terrain you want to replicate and your CycleOps. I have been involved with "Road Load" & dynamometer (automotive etc.) testing for many years and to get a 1:1 between the lab and test track is not trivial. This can be difficult to do.

i don't have a power tap (nor the money to get my hands on one!!).
i was sorta hoping someone had done the math before...
keeping my fingers crossed.
i can guesstimate, but i was hoping to get something with numbers so i have a relatively accurate baseline to use for ramping up training.
