Deep/Belgium Drop Classic Bars?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Deep/Belgium Drop Classic Bars?

Looking for bars that are...

Traditional round (not anatomic)
Deep/Belgium drop (at least 145mm drop)
Aluminum (cost factor)
Available in 40c-c
Prefer 31.6/31.7 oversize clamp

Only ones I've found are Deda Elementi Newton Deeps, but I'm thinking there must be other models out there? Any suggestions?

Trad shape + 31.x clamp + deep drops are not common, but there are a few I can think of that come close.

Deda 215s are deep, but have 26 clamp

These are trad, 31, but maybe not as deep as you want:
Ritchey WCS Classic
3T Rotundo Pro (139 drop)

Note that the reach dimensions for shallow and deep are back to front.

The same tough choices I face. Deda Newton appears to be the only good choice. I also use Nitto for the classic bend, but don't like how they flare out in the drops. Some day I'll find me some 46 perfectly round deep drop steel bars.

you're stuck with deda, but you don't have to get the newton, you can get a cheaper model like big piega.

I think that Ritchey has one, I am almost thinking of getting a 26.0 stem so that I can use a set of Cinelli 66 from my stash of vintage bars. I just put a set of Cinelli 65 Crit bend bars on my Colnago Super which is the bar that I always rode in the 80's. Nice, but I don't think they would work with brifters.

The Deda Corsa Speciale is a trad road bend, but it is NOT deep and they are heavy, I still like the look of them though and I may use them in a retro rod build.

Rufvelo.
FYI I ride Nitto mod. 185 and there is no flare in the drops. No weird bends like the Noodle. Medium drop.
They are 26 clamp, which limits my stem choices, esp since I like silver.
Currently hooked up to a Thomson Elite which is a bit bulky looking.

The bend is different from the Newton deep to the Big Piega. The Newton is his only real, deep drop choice. I ride them on every bike and just installed my new ones on the Ridley today.

I have the deda newtons and they have a very traditional feel, similar to old style Cinelli.. Another to look at is: Oval Concepts..

The Deda deep bend is a lot shallower then the old 3TTT Merckx bend or the Cinelli 66. It's not hard to find NOS 3TTT Merckx bend bars. The later models (Prima 220 and the Ergo Due) weigh less then most current alloy bars and have grooves for Aero brifters. MAke sure the bar is marked MEX every model came with different bends.

There really is no classic Belgian bar made currently. There are a couple of classic Italian shallow bend bars like the 3T Rotundo being made though. With the advent of brifters the demand for deep drop and track type bends (like the Cinelli 65 and 3T Gimondi bend) shrunk and drops got shallower and reach shorter because the hoods have become bar extensions and the main control point.

Many thanks for all the great info.

The Ritchey WCS classic & 3T Rotundo (have a set) are both shallower than I'm looking for, unfortunately. I'm in Japan, so finding used stuff is harder (lot of ebay retailers won't ship overseas), but I will keep an eye out for the 3TTT Merckx or Cinelli bars.

The Oval Concepts R701 Classic Road Bar suggested by classic1 appears to come in a 144mm drop option, so that looks like a possibility along with the Dedas.

I'm surprised, really thought there'd be more choices. Just out of curiosity, anyone know if there are more options in carbon?

Older 3TTT 'Merckx' style bars are deep, but shallower than Cinelli 66. Not much difference between a 3TTT Merckx and Deda 215 deeps IMO. If you can pick a Merckx bar up for a good price on ebay go for it.
