Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

fred machine

over the weekend i started tinkering with an old frame and i've decided to build it up as a fred machine to use stuff i bought/inherited over the years but didn't want to put on a main road bike.

it is intended not to be a utility bike for commuting or shopping. it will be used for shorter rides in town when i can't go riding for hours out in the countryside.

I've put downtube shifters, 7 speed cassette, a mirror, a bell, toe clip pedals so far but i feel i can do more but I need some ideas. i was thinking of a kickstand. what else?

those plastic things that slide up & down on the spokes and make noise. Maybe some tassles to hang from the bars... lots of oversized reflectors. Banana seat... basket up front

Flag on the back axle. Rear baskets. Rack. Lights. Blinky. Extra blinky. They sell pedals that blink as they rotate. Hokey Spokes. Fenders. Mudflap.
