Aldi Bike??

I'm here, in sunny Austria and recently stumbled across a bike for sale in the bargain basement shop that is Aldi (well, it's Hofer in Austria). Anyway, for 699 Euros, they're selling a full Ultegra kitted bike by the name of "Spee'd Div". I can get very little on the web about this. It's on the Hofer site for now (at RRP of 799 Euros)

Certainly looks good value but the old addage "You Get What You Pay For" is stirring in me.

Any thoughts?

I highly doubt you could do much better for the price.

Doesn't an Ultegra groupset cost about that?

Even more at http://bike-components.de , which is one of the cheapest I've found in Europe.

Is the bike full Ultegra? It wasn't clear from the link.

Another description on the same site:

Well, I had a look at it the other day. It's Ultegra front & rear mech, Ultegra crank, Ultegra brake levers & calipers. That's about a full groupset, isn't it?

Wow I wish my local Aldi's sold badass bikes like that. Maybe then the Amish people around here would start riding them :p

Sounds like it might be worth it just to upgrade the frame at a later date.

what does "Laufräder" mean?

Wheels.

Btw, you can get a full Ultegra group for 427e in Germany.(Edit, 479 now apparently)

Lewis72 04-21-09 09:52 AM

Ah, so this bike is probably:

Ultegra: Euro 479
Frame + other bits: Euro 220

The Sella Italia leather saddle wouldn't be that cheap. I think that the wheels are probably a bit low rent though (Shimano R500, whatever that is).
