Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aldi Bike??

I'm here, in sunny Austria and recently stumbled across a bike for sale in the bargain basement shop that is Aldi (well, it's Hofer in Austria). Anyway, for 699 Euros, they're selling a full Ultegra kitted bike by the name of "Spee'd Div". I can get very little on the web about this. It's on the Hofer site for now (at RRP of 799 Euros)

https://www.hofer.at/at/html/offers/2827_7625.htm

Certainly looks good value but the old addage "You Get What You Pay For" is stirring in me.

Any thoughts?

I highly doubt you could do much better for the price.

Doesn't an Ultegra groupset cost about that?

Even more at https://bike-components.de , which is one of the cheapest I've found in Europe.

Is the bike full Ultegra? It wasn't clear from the link.

Another description on the same site:

Well, I had a look at it the other day. It's Ultegra front & rear mech, Ultegra crank, Ultegra brake levers & calipers. That's about a full groupset, isn't it?

Wow I wish my local Aldi's sold badass bikes like that. Maybe then the Amish people around here would start riding them

Bikes: Trek Madone 3.1

Sounds like it might be worth it just to upgrade the frame at a later date.

Ah, so this bike is probably:

Ultegra: Euro 479
Frame + other bits: Euro 220

The Sella Italia leather saddle wouldn't be that cheap. I think that the wheels are probably a bit low rent though (Shimano R500, whatever that is).
