Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, I was gonna post this under the previous 50 miler thread, but I couldn't find it. I did my first half century last weekend and learned a bunch of lessons (i.e. carry cash with you, stay hydrated, and don't push too hard too fast). I was hurting at the end. Today, I set out again, this time on moderately rolling terrain with some gusty winds (last time was flat with no wind). Well, I stayed hydrated, ate right before hand, and pushed just the right amount at the right times. I finished 51.36 miles in two hours, fifty two minutes and eighteen seconds. That may seem like garbage to most of you guys with experience, but I'm pretty happy, especially since I'm still riding my hybrid bike for the time being.

Well, that's it. I just wanted to share with someone, and no one around here (in Indiana) would be able to understand how good I feel right now.

damn-
nice one, bpohl!

i need to get a computer for my bike - it's been broken for ages. i just did a three hour ride today as well but i don't think i got nearly that far, and i've got a road bike! you must be fast as poop to avg 17mph on a frickin' hybrid! i think you've earned a new bike with that one ride alone!

(great pic btw... ...seriously).

Thanks, Boze. I'm sill feeling good after about an hour off the bike. I really thought I'd be crashing by now, but I seem to be okay.
BTW... I'm in the process of paying off a Trek 2300 right now.... I've got about a thousand more to pay before it's mine, mine mine!!

BTW... you gotta love homestar!

what's that alloy they're talking about with the Trek 2300? is that the new fancy less-harsh aluminum like the Fuji X-Fusion?
