Cycleops PowerAgent software on Ubuntu 9.04?
Does anyone have PowerAgent working correctly on Ubuntu 9.04 (the latest release)? I'm trying to get it working for the first time and when I try to downlaod the data is says "PowerAgent was unable to scan for connected devices.". Maybe the USB driver isn't correctly installed, but from the PowerAgent website it sounds like this driver should come in all recent Linux kernels. Any suggestions would be appreciated, or also just letting me know that it works for you would be a little useful too.

Yeah, the USB interface probably won't work for you. If you've got access to a Windows CD, give www.virtualbox.com a try. Works great for me in Ubuntu to run those pesky Windows apps.

9.04 is the latest release. There are some pretty big changes so it may take a bit for things to catch up. Did it work under 8.10?
You can use Wine to run windows programs also.

I'll email Saris about it and see what they say. I didn't own a PowerTap until just recently so I never had the opportunity to test it with Ubuntu 8.10. At the moment I download the data off of my PT computer onto my fiancee's Mac, and then transfer over to the Linux machine, but that's a hassle...

You might also take a look at Crossover Linux. It's pretty handy for running Windows apps in Linux. It is essentially an easy-to-use front-end for Wine. I doubt that specific application is listed up front as being compatible, but you should be able to test it with the demo version.

I've got FC10 on my computer at work and it seems that the program runs fine. I don't want to have to install FC on my home computer just for this reason though, but it may come down to that.
I wonder if that would fix the problem though. It seems like there is some problem with the program having access to the USB ports possibly, and would running the program in Crossover or Wine really fix that problem? (Answer: maybe I should try.)

It's a laptop given to me by the school I went to. I had to reformat and didn't feel like buying a new xp cd, so I chose to go with freeware.

Golden Cheetah worked fine for me on 9.10. So I download the .csv data from my PT with Golden Cheetah and then I can open the .csv files with WKO+ (although you can analyze your data in Golden Cheetah just as well).
You could probably just download the data with Golden Cheetah and then maybe analyze it with Cycleops PowerAgent if you wanted.
