Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Input for road bike purchase

Hi,
I currently have a Fuji Ace SE (2003) https://www1.epinions.com/bicycles_2003_Fuji_Ace_SE which has plenty of 'experience'. It has a new Shimano cassette, Mavic rims and other additions. Since I had it given to me in 2005 I have ridden 4 Century's - 10 Metric Century's and Seattle to Portland in a day not to mention plenty of km's in training rides . I am currently training for a Cancer fund raiser which is Vancouver, BC to Seattle, WA.
My question is this: I am looking for a new bike and one which is suitable for my frame (I am 5'11", 220lbs in decent shape) I do know my current bike is an entry level model and my big beef is I have never been happy with it climbing hills and gearing (better component mix) may fix this.
Any and all suggestions welcome. TIA

If you run a triple with 13-26 cassette (as the linked bike has,) then you have plenty of low gears for climbing, and should consider upgrading the engine.

snotrockets, engine is fine, Thanks for the suggestion though.
runway1 would depend on the Make and components but given todays market I would say $2k or less.

Actually the original cassette is gone using a low end Shimano. The stock cassette was geared to closely together, great for flats crap for hills.

I do and there are plenty of heavier tri guys than me that are on different equipment making out fine. I suppose in an ideal world I would be the same height and 155lbs. What would be useful is a suggestion or two on equipment, less on my body composition thanks.

Components aren't going to make a hill of beans difference on your climb. That said, I recommend the Neuvation Alloy w/Sram Red components. Claimed weight of <16lbs.
