Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pizza and beer.

Usually an entire pizza and 6-pack, depending on the length of the ride.

Vanilla Yogurt. It's been a favorite for about 20 years now for. After a ride my stomach's sometimes unsettled, but I know without some quick food you don't get as good a recovery. Yogurt just works, particularly when its hot.

(As I sit here relaxing after a century ride this morning, polishing off a quart of it).

Used to get the same type of breakfast at a tiny cafe way out in the desert when I went dirt biking. The best white gravy and the best ham. Like 4 tables and run by 2 older ladies. I miss that.

My answer: soba needle (summer) and a beer
Tuna fish salad with walnuts (or almonds), raisins, American cheese (or not) and balsamic vinaigrette dressing, with a small coffee.

If the ride's long enough, and I didn't eat well enough during the ride, then General Tso's Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and a Sprite.

After my last Century-

1 pound of Penne Pasta
4 cans of Tuna
1 large onion
3 Big ugly tomatoes
1/4 clove garlic
1 green pepper
1/4 cup hot sauce
3/4 cup Hellmans olive oil mayo
2 tablespoons salt

Cooked the pasta, mixed in the rest and ate the best tasting meal I ever had (still had room for a 6 pack of Guinness Extra Stout after finishing it all).

I can actually eat a LOT more than salad after a century without getting hungry, but my salads taste BOMB. I also prefer brick-oven pizza with a Sprite. Grimaldi's is where it's at. Ask botto.

A plain bagel, with Marscapone cheese, and Nutella.

Or Pesto with pasta.

Mmmmmm.... I would go for tuscany ham, apples & brie - melted in crusty whole wheat bread.

Sadly, if ingredients are missing, I'll go for the first thing I see - after yesterday's ride, it was peanut butter & nutella on whole wheat wonderbread.

My girlfriend tells me that cheesecake with marscapone cheese is extremely, extremely good.

Can you confirm?

I know it's not 'proper' southern gravy, but I used to put it all over the biscuits, the ham, and the taters.
Those were the days, choke down a couple thousand calories, have a couple Marlboros, and spend 6-8 hours on the motorcycle with a couple beer breaks.
