Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice welcome for my options for new bike

Here goes, I am narrowing this down so that I can start locating and test driving these: I am looking for a high performance hybrid w/ upright handlebars in the 1000-1300 price range. If anyone has comments on any of these good or bad, that would really help me out:

1) Trek 7.6 FX (msrp 1250)
2) Fuji Absolute 1.0 (msrp 1250)
3) Jamis Allegro 3 (msrp 1175)
4) Specialized Sirrus Expert (msrp 1350)
5) Giant FCR1 (msrp 1000)
6) Bianchi Camaleonte 5 (msrp 1449) or 4 (msrp 1149)
7) Cannondale Quick 2 (msrp 1275) or 3 (msrp 1000)

Thanks so much!

What advantages do flat bars have over drop bars, given the same geometry frame?

I have always had that type of design (my bike was stolen yesterday!) I have a bad lower back and prefer to be as much upright as possible.
