Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My 20 year old bike

I've had this bike for about ten years now and only recently started to enjoy road biking. I've always rode some kind of bike, BMX until I was about 19 and then got into mountain biking. Recently I've really taken to the road and would love to upgrade the bike but theres no way I can buy a new road bike for a while so I had to do something to add to my bike to keep me interested in it. I decided to paint and polish the crank and also paint the fork (some cheap bling). Let me know what you think. By the way the bike is a 1989 Trek 1500 with all 600 components.
Before (This is not me just a googled pic)

The crank

The bike

I thought it tuned out alright for a spray can. Hopefully in the future I can upgrade a few things but money is tied up else where right now.

Be careful Preston, at 20 years old, that bike probably only has about 100,000 miles or so left in it. It looks great!

Your chainrings are out of round...can you "true" them?

The only upgrade I can think of is a white garage door.

The bike looks great, ride the heck out of it! What in the world are you talking about though when you say the picture isn't of you and you just googled the pic? I'm confused, you have pictures of the bike, pre and post fix up (which are very nice), but you posted a pic of some dude you don't know holding a bike like yours?

Are these the original wheels? The rims sure look crisp with no visible wear from the brakes on the anodized surface.

Cool, I didn't remember seeing 1500's in that color, all the ones I remember from back then were red.

I've since replaced the crank with a slightly newer round 105 set.

Cool! Here's my 1989 1500. I also thought they only came in red or white. I'm told my frame is no good so I'm having a different bike built and this one will be retired. I've enjoyed the crap out of this thing though!

Thanks for the replies. The bike has very few miles on it for how old it is, hence the rims looking new. The rings are the original but I believe my dad may have some extra rings somewhere at his house. And for the person that cant figure out my pictures. I wanted to give the viewer a before and after pic and I did not have a before so I googled it and found a pic that resembled my bike. It is a difficult concept.
