Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recommend a good wind jacket?

So, it appears that I accidently donated my wind jacket to the great outdoors this weekend. I'm not too heartbroken since it was a cheap jacket that I picked up for $20 off a clearance rack. But now I need a new one. I'm looking for something...

has zip-off sleeves
wind-proof and water-resistant (water-proof is a bonus)
close fitting to minimize flap (if-possible)
compactable and light weight so it'll fit in a jersey pocket (without escaping this time )
sub $100

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(and yes, I tried the search function and didn't find much....although I could swear I remember a thread like this from before....sorry lol)

Sizing varies a lot between brands. "Close fitting" is a good idea, but you have to try them on to see what fits you best.

This spring I bought a Cannondale rain/wind jacket that had removable sleves held on with magnets. So far its worked really well- you can take the sleves off without getting off your bike.

haven't tried it, but it was on the bicycling magazine best products under $100. https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...05_20000_20008

Performance Transformer Jacket
If anybody has it, definitely post, I've been thinking about getting it myself

I has one. It works great, but isn't a racer-snug fit. If that's not a deal breaker, it's a heckuva jacket....

I just picked up the Pearl Izumi Vagabond. I love it. It has everything in your description and was right at your price point. Bought at REI.

I recently bought a mountain Hardware jacket, half zip, reasonably close fitting. It has been great in the cold and wind weve had here this past week, and it stuffs on the jersey pocket nicely. I wish it was bit longer in the back, as it has a tendencay to "rideup"

I have the hammer nutrition wind jacket, goes on sale for like $60
It works well, but seems to be made out of burlap sacks-real coarse weave- that snags easy.

Great jacket if you don't care that it comes in black as opposed to a hi-visibility colour...

Yep. I just picked up the Vagabond II from an LBS here. They had it on sale for 30% off . Looks and feels like a great jacket and I love how their zip-off sleeves are designed.

Hopefully I'll be able to keep this one for a while
